STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- With Wednesday’s release of the environmental assessment for New York City’s proposed congestion pricing program, drivers got an in-depth look at how much they could be charged to drive into Manhattan’s Central Business District (CBD).
The comprehensive report outlines seven different tolling scenarios, with higher tolls rates, up to $23 during peak hours, in the scenarios that offer additional credits, caps and exemptions to certain vehicles.
These vehicles could see E-ZPass rates ranging anywhere from $9 to $23 during peak periods and from $5 to $12 during overnight hours, depending on the selected scenario.
Higher rates would also be charged to larger vehicles under the first six scenarios, with peak E-ZPass rates for small trucks ranging from $12 to $65 and for large trucks ranging from $12 to $82.

Factoring in the Verrazzano bridge toll, a motorist leaving Staten Island and driving into midtown can pay up to $40 dollars. Parking and gas can bump that up to near $100, depending on the how long you're parked. As a cynic of the 1st Order, I'm really, really happy middle class NY'ers are about to get another heavy dose of pain. It's really time to move the hell out of that s'hole.
they’d make more money if they let anyone in for free and charged them $100 to leave.
They should go up on the tolls to pay for their newest illegal residents.......sanctuary city you know. 😉
It hits every form of transportation. I took an Uber last week from Manhattan to New Jersey and it cost me $125.00…
I've bought cars for less :)
NY, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, Portland — unlivable ‘RAT-run cities.
...in the off-chance good and decent people needed one last reason to stay out of NYC.
Anyone traveling into NYC should be charged a billion dollars, not $40. :-P
Remember the narrative after the bridges and tunnels were erected, in 5 years it will pay for it self and be free for all. Billions are made and they still want more
It’s as if they *want* to turn Manhattan into a ghost town. Stats show that only about 37% of the people who commuted to Manhattan before the Rat Party’s Virus Panic have returned to their offices. Add the fact that whether you ride the subway at 7AM or 2AM you’re taking your life into your hands and we’ll see most of those 100 story office buildings become homeless shelters before long.
I grew up there and finally escaped 2009. There is not enough money in this universe to make me move back to that toilet, seriously. If someone gave me $100 million to do it, I would probably buy a condo and pay someone to make pretend they were me. I hate that place like no other, it IS the asshole capital of the world and it never use to be like that. In the late 1980s for some reason all these out of state leftists started moving in infesting the city like the worst kind of cockroaches whereas today they have completely taken over. None of the people I ever grew up with or are friends with today are leftists. These Trump protestors are all scumbags from other states.
to be fair.....it costs quite a bit to keep 85 year old bridges from falling down....
Don’t Gove Mayor Beetlejuice in Chiraq any ideals, she wants congestion pricing for the interstate highways within Chicago. However, the ISTHA probably will administer it, not the City of Chicago.
It’s a disgusting dump, unfit for human habitation.
All problems from NY to Crapcago to DC can be fixed with 25MTs. I used to say 5 but my new thought is why take a chance.
What congestion?!
Methinks that playbook is used throughout the US, since the same thing has happened with the toll roads here in Harris County (Houston).
This is a cash grab.
I frequently drive from Maryland to New England states. I take 81 past Scranton and then across 84. It adds 60 miles but is likely less time and zero tolls.
“This is a cash grab.”
That’s all it is-—another tax on the lower and middle classes.
The effect on “congestion” will be negligible.
