The number of workers in the U.S. has continued to shrink as businesses struggle to find employees for their openings.
"The hope for many to achieve a soft landing is that you meet in the middle, with demand cooling off and labor supply picking up, and we reach a much healthier equilibrium between the two," Michael Pugliese, an economist at Wells Fargo, told the Wall Street Journal Sunday. "But if labor supply flatlines or keeps falling, you need to bring demand down even more in order to cool off wage growth."
According to Labor Department data, the number of workers in the U.S. has fallen 400,000 since March, a troubling sign after the number of workers approached prepandemic levels earlier this year. The total labor force is now about 600,000 smaller than it was in early 2020, right before widespread COVID-19 restrictions plunged the economy into a recession.

I know I am seriously considering leaving the workforce.
I have a rental vacancy in what was once a blue collar neighborhood bedroom community.
Received probably 50 responses and of that probably 5 of them work.
I do believe the rest of them are waiting for the cancel rent legislation to go through.
I don’t see how people find the means to do it.
Closing in on 30 years of living well below my means. It takes planning but can be done.
Really? You can't reduce costs with new plant and equipment or worker training and improve productivity?
You can't reduce raw material costs, energy costs and transportation costs by exploiting natural resources readily available in the US?
You can't reduce the enormous costs of government regulation and taxes?
Great example of how most of our economic elite as well as our political elite needs to be removed.
Not one word in the article about demographics. The Baby Boomers are retiring. They are the largest generation in American history. We’ve always known they’d be retiring this decade. The next generation is smaller. According to Peter Zeihan we will be four hundred thousand workers short each until 2035.

Millions are also dropping out of the workforce. At least 8 Million in the last year or so.
That’s how you get a low “unemployment”rate in an economy that is shrinking altogether while growing at the top and really shrinking at the bottom.
The RINOs gave themselves over to protecting big business on good capitalism reasons and the woke took over the capitalist board rooms to steer private enterprise into a centrally planned socilaist economy with “climate change” and other woke items merely a wedge to that end.
Lots of people are working, just under the table or not reporting it in any way.
“The Baby Boomers are retiring. They are the largest generation in American history. We’ve always known they’d be retiring this decade.”
But the politicians haven’t cared as long as they kept getting re-elected.
Evil, self-centered, condescending bastards.
Ugh. I’m at the tail end of the boomers and I’m working three jobs ABOVE the table.
Eliminate welfare and unemployment insurance. Then watch the problem go away.
E-Verify. Won’t need it.
Average welfare benefits for a family of 4 was $57,000 and that was 4 years ago. It includes money saved by not having to commute to a job etc. Unemployment checks keep coming for 99 weeks. Makes little sense to work in a low paying job.
I can’t do IT project management anymore.
I’ve hired on 3 remote jobs this last year and quit.
The subject matter sucks, IT people suck, and at 59, I’m done with this crap.
Looking to become a delivery driver around town or something.
I sick of EVERYTHING IT.
The Marxist cabal via puppet ByeDone is CRUSHING our economy.
Best economic recovery in history. Just ask Biden.
[/s]
IRS will find them!
Most people employed faster then anyone else and 0% inflation in July sayeth Biden.
Plus these politicians are getting wealthy off the stock market because of insider trading.
