Republicans are coming under fire for their rhetoric over $80 billion in funding for the IRS included a massive climate, tax and health care bill that Democrats in Congress are sending to the White House.
The funding, over 10 years, is intended to help the IRS enforce various provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act, which would raise more than $700 billion in new revenue by instituting a 15-percent corporate minimum tax, taxing stock buy backs and extending a cap on deductions for business losses, in addition to helping the IRS enforce existing tax law. Of the $80 billion, more than half would go to increased enforcement, like audits.
Republicans, who have nursed grievances over the IRS going back to the Obama administration that were inflamed further by fights over former President Trump’s tax returns, have taken aim at the funding, arguing it amounts to creating a new army of IRS agents to go after taxpayers.
But the IRS, Democrats and outside experts all say the new enforcement money will mostly allow the IRS to focus on audits of the wealthy.

Someone opened the Hill’s floodgates again?
If only it was fresh water, instead of sewage.
GOP is not “under fire” about anything. The tyrants who want a tax stasi are. From the The Shill indeed.
GOP under fire? That usually results in a immediate surrender. They are “under fire” from the New York Times, MSNBC, and the other usual suspects. Taxes are one of the few things that the GOP will fight on (sort of).
The eyeRus has evidenced their bias and ability to be a political tool of the left.
Defend the police?
Stalinazis upset at being called out for Stalinazi agenda of weaponizing IRS, film at 11.
It will take 10 years to train and ramp up 80+ new agents.
“..This is essentially raising an army for a campaign against the American taxpayer. Anybody who believes that this number of armed IRS agents is necessary to go after the tiny percentage of the public that earns over 400K annually is naive...”
That’s EXACTLY what this is. They’re raising and equipping a standing civilian army on our own sovereign U.S. soil against the American People. They’re not BSing anybody with half a brain. The whole Russian military budget is $66B. This $80B monstrosity is evil in the making.
We don’t care
Audits of the wealthy??
87,000more spooks for that?
Ridiculous on its face.
Republicans need to KEEP pushing back HARD.
It’s a winning issue and they know it.
Democraps are in charge and still cannot withhold their rage.
They are incompetent stewards of the USA and always will be.
mentally ill the lot of them
I read where the 16th Amendment was sold as only taxing the rich. How has that worked out?
Actually WWII also introduced withholding—that is you are taxed before you get your hands on the money you earned. Before that, you sent a check I think on March 15th so you kind of knew how big a bite Uncle Sam was taking.

The irs operates outside ousual jurisprudence and constitutional rights.
Which would be completely unnecessary if Joe and his henchmen and henchwomen hadn't caused the inflation in the first place.
Their evil chutzpah just knows no bounds.
Repeal the 16th Amendment! We got along just fine without it till 1913.
If we can repeal the 18th Amendment (prohibition) we can repeal the 16th!
Chief Justice John Marshall believed that “The power to tax is the power to destroy.”
Fight fire with fire.
That was mt first question. Is there any normal person who is an IRS fanboy/ fangrrl?
In an ideal world, the IRS is a necessary evil at best. In our reality, it was perverted to serve as an arm of the Demonrat Party.
Under fire by whom? The Mainstream Media?
Why doe the IRS need 87,000 new agents armed and ready to use deadly force? This the Left’s brownshirt army being established to impose tyranny upon the American people.
Uh, sure, an extra 79,000 agents are needed to audit the wealthy.
Everyone I talk too, liberals and conservatives are terrified of 87,000 irs agents.
