Isle of Wight eatery defends itself against ‘nasty’ and ‘bullying’ vegans who were furious that their diet was not catered for

An award-winning cafe has at hit out at “holier-than-thou” vegan customers saying they shouldn’t have to adapt their menu to “suit” customers who don’t eat animal products.

The Kitchen at London House on the Isle of Wight went online to defend itself against “nasty” and “bullying” vegans who were outraged at their decision to refuse to cater to their diets.

Addressing its critics, it said: “If you want vegan food, go to a vegan restaurant.”

The popular high street restaurant in Ventnor said that though it used to serve some vegan food, they decided to stop because of a “militant minority” that spoilt it for the majority.

And who’s to say there’s no psychological impact to the deliberate avoidance.

Saw a great sign in an antique store, “I’m a second hand vegetarian...cows eat grass...I eat cows”. Took a photo of it to send to my sister whose daughter is a vegan. My sister uses that phrase all the time now.

“Addressing its critics, it said: “If you want vegan food, go to a vegan restaurant.”
Seems simple enough. ”

Exactly!

Well, the Golden Corral in my town just had a major remodel. I love buffet’s, especially Chinese Buffet. My wife hates them so we never go.

Fortunately, I do a lot of work travel and get my fix

I had a niece look askance at a couple of hunting trophies I have mounted and hanging on the wall. She said “I’m a vegetarian.” I said “So were they.”

Great for them. They couldn’t be happy that they had choices. So the restaurant said Vegans, F You. I might support them by ordering a meal and give it to someone in need

Something of a slide, here, but I wonder if this can be traced back to the various nutritionists groups.

Here’s why:

My husband has had gout for about 30 years, secondary to the diuretics for high BP. He follows a limited purine diet and has managed fairly well all that time with maybe a flare per year.

He had a major flare starting 3 weeks ago following an injury and perhaps an infection in his hand and I began reviewing the gout sites. Suddenly, all dairy is discouraged, along with tomatoes & bell peppers. Simple carbs have always been indicated, but now I see oatmeal on the discouraged/limited lists.

Only about 40% of purines are due to diet, the rest are produced by the body. Also, much of the purine in veggies is not as bio-available.

Like with vegans, there appears to be major definition creep. I work with fiber and in the past few years, more and more varieties of cellulose are on offer because the vegans won’t work with wool or silk. The newer fibers are marketed as Vegan Silk or Soy Silk, so there is a definite vegan demand. One type is infused with nano-pearl dust and the descriptions always admit that it is not vegan because oysters produce pearls.

Just wondering , but it is a feature of totalitarian thought to keep raising the bar on every issue.

This restaurant needs to put a pork free pork dish on its menu for new customers. Doing so will keep out vegetableheads and towelheads, the two biggest groups of terrorists in the world.

Do medications such as allopurinol or probenecid not prevent your husband’s attacks? Also, diuretics are strongly contraindicated for gout. Why not switch to a different class of antihypertensive drug?

Doc just increased his allopurinal and stopped the extra diuretic. As for why the Lisinopril, I do not know. He had some negative reactions early on to some others.

Mr rl had already been halving the diuretic and, he was not taking the allopurinal as often as directed, AFAIK. I am pretty sure he has become more compliant.
