Nivedita Bhasin became the world’s youngest commercial airline captain in 1989, but the Indian pilot still recalls her early years when other crew would urge her to rush into the cockpit so passengers wouldn’t get nervous at the sight of a woman flying their plane.
Three decades after Bhasin’s career began, female pilots are no longer a rarity in India, making the country a success story when it comes to diversity in the airline industry. India has the highest percentage of female pilots globally, the International Society of Women Airline Pilots estimates, with about 12.4% of all pilots women, compared with 5.5% in the US, the world’s largest aviation market, and 4.7% in the UK.

Has some truth in that.
More like 4 times.
I’ll take they have a population of over 1.5 billion for $200, Alex.
I have to agree.
How would you know? You pulling "facts" out of your butt?
spending lots of time posting on FR.
AND... what are YOU doing right now, sporty?
Work up a better attack, this one is lame.
LOL but now they have cars which can parallel park hands free.
Name your movie and in which theater it was played.
Where do Indian pilots come from? I ask because a lot of US pilots come from the military, which for a long time has been primarily male. Those coming from private training are competing against military pilots with a decade of experience. If pilots in India come from private schools or airline training then you don’t have the military sex difference.
Hey I am retired and have lots of time to waste on my hands.
Yup, not worried about this.
Don’t know if they’re comparing apples to apples. Didn’t read. % is more important than absolute number.
Either way, it is not because of oppression. It’s because people do what they want to do. I guess not many women here (despite the real “diversity” of races) want to fly big planes.
This is my whole problem with the entire “discrimination” argument that we NEED more X and Y and Z - it’s not discrimination on the back end, it’s on the front end. Are we supposed to force these groups into doing things? Guns to their heads that they MUST do these jobs?
Just let it be and accept it.
Because so many of the men went to America to steal jobs
I think you've spelled "retarded" wrong.
So you think I should have made some movies in order to
criticize some wanker that makes movies? Really?
Did you ever criticize a president? When were you a president?
They are talking percentages not absolute numbers, so the size of the country doesn’t matter.
Nope. Mine.
The population in India is enormous. Not much respect for life there.
;)
I never took up golf so I don’t know too much about the goings on.
Because they have 4 times the population.
From my experience, Indian women are always superior to Indian men...
In India they know what a woman is. In the US, who knows.
Don’t want no short people....
