Congressman Perry Gets Phone Back From FBI, Unclear About Motives Behind Seizure

House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry (R-Pa.) confirmed that he has received his cell phone back from the FBI after the agency had seized it a few days back.

On Aug. 9, a day after raiding former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida, FBI agents had taken Perry’s phone as part of a separate investigation. At the time, Perry was traveling with his family. Speaking to “Capitol Report” on NTD News, the GOP member confirmed that he has received his phone.

He is still uninformed as to why the phone was confiscated by the FBI. However, Perry was informed by his attorneys that he was not a target of the FBI’s investigation.

After the seizure, Perry had blasted FBI agents for making no attempt to contact his lawyer who would have made arrangements to submit the phone if needed by the agency.

In a statement, Perry said that though he was outraged, he was “not surprised” that the FBI under the direction of Attorney General Merrick Garland’s Department of Justice would seize the phone of a sitting member of Congress.

Perry claimed that his phone contains information about political and legislative activities as well as private conversations with his family members, friends, and constituents, none of which is the “government’s business.”

“DOJ chose this unnecessary and aggressive action instead of simply contacting my attorneys,” the statement said. “These kinds of banana republic tactics should concern every citizen.”

Unprecedented Move

In an interview with NTD, Greg Shaffer, a retired FBI agent for the elite hostage rescue team, said that the FBI needs to have special permission to seize any property belonging to members of Congress, members of the clergy, attorneys, or other individuals who deal with privileged information. Seizing Perry’s phone was a “show of force” by the Biden administration.

“For an FBI agent to go walk up to a sitting congressman and take his cell phone … that had to be approved at the highest level at the FBI and DOJ,” Shaffer said. “That is very, very difficult to do. Unprecedented.”

It is unclear whether there is a link between Perry’s phone seizure and the raid on Trump’s home. Speaking to The Epoch Times, Perry pointed out that the separation of powers is a firewall that keeps the three branches of government in check.

By taking control of a phone belonging to a sitting member of Congress, the DOJ, “for maybe the first time in history, is preparing to pierce that veil.”

"Get rid of it. You don’t know what they did to it while they had it.

That was my first thought as well..

They could have turned it into a listening - tracking device, (not that cell phones aren't that already), they could have planted child porn on it, 'secret nuclear plans', text messages 'proving' collusion with 'Jan 6 rioters & Trump to overthrow the government'... Text message to Alex Jones calling Sandy Hook a fake...

Not that they need to have the phone physically to do stuff like that. The CIA and NSA can plant anything on anyone's phone remotely, and make it look like it came from anyone / anywhere they want. It is just easier if they have possession of it.

True. I never wanted a smart phone, but was forced to get one because my 3G phone was being interfered with by a network booster in the area. About 8 or 9 years ago, I ended up getting the cheapest iPhone that Verizon had. I chose an iPhone because I use Apple computers, so was familiar with the OS. I only use the phone for calls and the occasional text message (mostly Dr. appointment confirmations, and CVS Caremark scripts). I don't use it to buy anything online, have never used it for streaming, played games, or read books on it. Once a day I use the Safari app to get Bing Reward s mobile search points on it. I've never set up my bank account, credit card accounts, or email on the thing. I don't know how people can use a phone to do those things. The only app I ever downloaded on it is Verizon's Call Filter. I get more spam calls and texts on it than regular calls, and texts. Hopefully I'll die before it does, because I really don't want to have to buy another phone ever. After 30+ years, I got rid of Spectrum (Time Warner) cable, and phone back in May. I kept their internet, because there are no other options here that would give me the speed I want. I would never subscribe to their cable or home phone service again. And I sure as hell wouldn't subscribe to their mobile service.

My phone stays turned off (not that that matters either, they can track you , listen to you, even when it is 'off', as long as the battery is in it, and my current phone has non-removable battery), except when I am actively using it (which is, on average, once a month.)

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they AREN'T out to get me.

The FIB needs to be completely defunded, shut down, building razed, and the earth salted. Period.

I'd be willing to go Orwellian on the lot of 'em, wipe all existence of them from the record. As though they never existed.

Instead of the word "paranoid," I like to use "security conscious" instead.

I think even some Democrats are seeing the lack of due process here. If the FBI Gestapo can do this to Trump, then they can do it to all of us with less impunity. Why do you think they added a lot more IRS agents. This smells like a deep pile of B.S.!

… the elite hostage rescue team…

Is this same “elite” team that was present at Ruby Ridge and Waco?

Remember the two jump rule

If they get any of your associates on your phone the can survivor them and anyone they are associating with

They are trying to get FISA warrants for surveillance of as many Trump associates and Republicans as they can just like they did with the Russian hoax they manufactured

And this is the same FBI unit that framed Donald Trump, General Flynn and the rest
