I thought this only was applicable in criminal cases.

In criminal cases the right is absolute. In a civil case instituted by the government you can still plead the fifth amendment (because you could theoretically confess to a crime while the subject of a civil trial) but the judge can instruct the jury to infer that you have something to hide from doing so. That is impermissible in a criminal case.

OK ... They’ll try lying to STATE investigators.

Remember: Lying to the cops is a crime, but the cops are encouraged and rewarded for lying to YOU.

“”I have the feeling it will be nearly impossible for him to resist talking.””

I always said he needed a “governor” on his mouth. Let’s hope he sticks to his guns!!!!

Because,

“If Mr. Trump stumbles — or incriminates himself — Ms. James’s office could alert the district attorney’s office, which has said that it will closely monitor the interview.”

this civil case isn’t really civil.

When I see this, I wonder if Trump was so thrilled with the FBI raid at Mar-A-Lago that he helped orchestrate it himself.

The FBI raid gave him all the political cover he needed to assert his Fifth Amendment rights in this civil deposition.

Merrick Garland is a rabid partisan who is still butthurt over not being on the Supreme Court and has no problem with indicting Trump, he’s been amazingly quiet over raiding he home of a Former POTUS.

Letitia James he AG of NY is power mad partisan who has dreams of being the Governor of NY and maybe make a run at President and indicting Trump and humiliating him will cement her legacy in her mind.

At the very plush, beautiful, and expensive A.G.'s office. Nice working conditions, as people are being murdered all over New York - and she spends her time and effort on trying to "get Trump."

LMAO x 500,000

I thought there was some by-law where you couldn’t plead the 5th in a civil suit?

That's simply not true. In this case, the "civil action" involves a state prosecutor.

“”because they were uncertain they would be able to get away with it.””

Perhaps then but after Hillary grabbed the spotlight in so many different areas, they were assured that they could get away with anything and have done so. Someone else’s post that mentioned Cheryl Mills reminded me of how long they’ve been getting away with every crooked action they’ve pulled.

And let’s not forget Susan Rice works in the WH, doesn’t she? Did she ever pay a price for backing up the lies about Benghazi?

Seeking something different on TV late last night, I saw a program on the problems and current pleas for help in Haiti. We all remember the help that country got from the Clintons and their phony foundations, don’t we?

I wasn’t really thrilled the first time I voted for President Trump. I was just voting against the Clintoon. After watching Trump in action, he’s up there on my “best presidents” list. Naive is the correct word for him when it comes to being a politician. Fighting in the business world is a hell of a lot different than fighting in a garbage dump full of crap-eating politicians known as Washington D.C. I had planned on going into politics myself once I got out of the Army. Not doing so was the best decision I ever made in my life. Being a dog eat dog, scum sucking politician went against ALL of my values. Trump isn’t a politician. He’s a businessman and a damn good one at that. IMHO.

Always invoke the 5th. Especially if you’re innocent.

I am innocent.

innocent =

‘in’ is like ‘un’, meaning not

‘o cent’ is like zero cents.

means I do not have zero cents. (I really DO have lots and lots of cents, or lots of dollars.)

So ‘innocent’ means guilty of hiding all that money.
