A homeless Florida man described as a career criminal went joyriding on a piece of stolen construction equipment and caused more than $10,000 in damages on Saturday, authorities said.
Deputies located Randy Lee Wealand, 56, operating a $60,000 JLG Lull around 8 a.m. on the sidewalk of Ocean Shore Boulevard in Beverly Beach, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators determined that Wealand had stolen the heavy machinery from a construction site and drove it 2.5 miles to Beverly Beach. Along the way, deputies said he ran over two fire hydrants, a Charter Communications fiber node, resident mailboxes and broke several sections of public sidewalk.
"This career criminal decided to go on a joyride with a large piece of construction equipment", Sheriff Rick Staly said. "Wealand would have caused more damage if he were not stopped and apprehended by deputies. Another win for ‘see something, say something,’ so a special thank you to the citizens who called us and helped prevent this dirtbag from continuing his dangerous path of destruction."

Florida Man Rampage.
DANG!
“Hey, this construction equipment is defective. I drove it over two miles, and it didn’t construct anything. In fact, I think it actually caused some damage. What’s up with that?”
Doubtful that he could drive a scissor lift.
Make meth legal or I’ll wreck some more and beat more snorkelers!!!
Be honest. How many here would like to go to Florida and get on some construction equipment and go for a joy ride? Maybe take a bulldozer and rip up the landscape? Push over a tree or two? C’mon! Am I the only one? Really?
Now I know what a JLG LULL Is !
.
Learning stuff is KEWL !
When I was like 8 or 9 it was always fun to find keys or hotwire and drive the backhoes and bulldozers around.
Never considered damaging anything
A Tank would be a Blast!

Like the one Stolen in
San Diego years ago!!!
Wasnt it a few years ago a guy got on a dozer and did some custom work in his neighborhood?
Oh I remember that.
He tried to go over the median and got hung up. Thats when they got him.
Plymouth WI years ago a guy started a tank up that was on display by the NG and took it for a joy ride. That started at the county fair and ended up on highway 57 where he ran out of fuel. All the cops could do was follow with a couple in front getting traffic to hell off the road.
I guess it all started with a bet at one of the beer stands.
“Maybe take a bulldozer and rip up the landscape? Push over a tree or two? C’mon! Am I the only one? Really?”
No. you aren’t the only one. Power equipment is fun!
I used to have a 70hp frontend loader tractor that I used to push down trees and pull them out by the roots. Big fun!
I didn’t care much about wreaking it because it was a old Ford 5000.
I sold it and bought a new Branson 3620 and I treat that one better.
Didn’t end well for San Diego man,,,
One way Ticket, Punched.
1982.
Gillette wyoming.
A drunk comes out of the back door of the Gay 90s bar.
Kerr Mcgee has some equiptment there.
The drunk was fired from Kerr McGee.
The drunk still has the Cat key from the D 9 cat that he ran.
The drunk fires the “ 9 “ up snd proceeds to start cruising the gillette residential area, running over cars, dropping the ripper snd tearing up sewer and water lines.
Run over and breaks the curbs.
Runs over a brand new car and drops the ripper right threw the roof.
Here is the 9 running around with the car stuck on its ripper.
Cops are shooting holes in the tappet cover of the motor...trying to stop it.
The drunk leaves the cat in gear and bails out.
The cat falls into the basement of a house and slows it down enough for a guy to climb into the cab and shut it down.
The drunk goes into the back door of an apartment building, then comes out of the front and is standing there.
Cops are looking for him.
A witness to the event grabs the dtunk and yells: police, here is your man
Ya..they got at him through the hatch and shot the poor guy. All he ever did was run everything over that got in his way.
They shot him because he made them look stupid. He would have gone to jail for quite a while if he’d been arrested, but he wouldn’t have gotten the death penalty.
The particular machine used for the joyride was quite a bit smaller than what I was around. That said, at full throttle it would go too fast for a person to safely jump onto to stop a Florida Man. The flex lift on one construction site I ran could lift a F-150 truck on the forks and gently put it on the roof of a 2-story building or tilt the forks down to dump the truck off to a glorious thump on the ground.
You can see in the OP photos that the machine has 4 wheel steering giving extreme maneuverability. The rear can be set to locked, non-steering, unlocked to turn the same direction as front tires (crab sideways) and unlocked to pivot the opposite of the front (pivot in a circle). Usually, forks are installed on the boom to move pallets, unload trucks and place equipment. With 4-wheel drive and agricultural tires, they are excellent on rough, muddy construction sites.
It is so much cheaper to incarcerate the criminally insane than leave them on the street. People think prison costs too much, but the fact is it saves money.
