Trump-backed challenger Joe Kent surpasses U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, leaving her on edge of primary defeat

U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler has fallen to third place behind Donald Trump-endorsed challenger Joe Kent, leaving the six-term incumbent on the edge of defeat.

With new votes tallied in Clark and Cowlitz counties Monday, Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, was trailing Kent by 813 votes. She had been ahead by 257 votes as of Friday.

Facing backlash over her vote to impeach Trump over the Jan. 6 Capitol assault, Herrera Beutler had been in second place since election night in the 3rd District race in Southwest Washington.

But her support eroded in later ballot counts, which favored Kent. That trend continued Monday as a new batch of Clark County ballots put Kent ahead for the first time.

Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez remained in first place with about 31% of the vote, leaving her headed for a November matchup against either Kent or Herrera Beutler. Kent was at 22.7% and Herrera Beutler at 22.4% as of Monday evening.

Thousands of votes remain to be counted in the all-mail ballot election, with Clark County estimating 10,000 left in the district’s largest population center.

The race for the second spot on the ballot may be headed for a recount.

Hence the raid on his home.

Liz Cheney faces the Wyoming voters next Tuesday; I think the wait will be much shorter than in Washington State.

A recipe for shenanigans.

It is a complete farce when election results cannot be announced the night of the election. Just one more sign we live in a banana republic. Nearly every institution in our nation is corrupt.

Good!

I haven't been following the Primaries really closely, but I am under the impression that President Trump backed candidates are doing quite well overall, am I correct in that?

Even if Kent loses in November, this is a win. But, I hope it is a double win. I hope Kent wins in November

We’re winning the way the democrats win when they cheat. I don’t get it. Still we’ll have to vote for the democrat when it comes to Newcomb in November. Good news anyway. Just wait until it’s final. That St. Johns woman. Can’t wait for payback when she goes looking for another job in the GOP.

Yes you are correct.

Currently Trump has 173 wins, 14 losses. Six of the losses were in now corrupt Georgia.

I guarantee this is behind the raid.

The Deep State are frightened of the MAGA wave coming this way. RINO incumbents are dropping like flies and Trump waltzes into CPAC with a 90%+ performance in the straw poll with a microscopic 0.2% support for Turncoat Pence.

They feel they must take Trump down now as he gets more powerful by the day.

And by “edge of defeat”, they mean the way Wile E. Coyote would end up standing just off the edge of a cliff before realizing it and waving bye-bye.

If you’re talking about WA state, it’s not ranked voting it’s top 2 vote getters. Can be in same party to make the general election ballot.

WA state has been mail in only for quite awhile. Slow as all get out to report results. Annoying.

To paraphrase Obi Wan Kenobi, if they strike him down, he will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

I was reading about the cheating going on out there. Kent couldn’t even get his ballot confirmed until visited several offices (???) to get to the bottom of the mess. This country is in a sad, sad, condition that only a full enema of the perps responsible will remedy.

Joe Kent has campaigned his butt off. I’m not in his district but from what I’ve seen he is the real deal. He’s the Joe I can support!
