German officials have expressed fears that a worst-case winter of energy problems could prompt an extremist backlash. How bad things get may depend on how well they manage the crisis – in policy and perception.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz is not in a wait-and-see mood, telling public broadcaster, ARD, last month that spiraling heating costs are a "powder keg for society."
In explicitly naming the elephant in the room, the chancellor and his government are on the hook for nipping social unrest in the bud.

I’ve been saying right along...before this is over...both Nordstream I & II will be flowing.
Then turn on Nordstream 2. This is entirely their choice to have this shortage.
We could use a little of that “social unrest” in this country. Unfortunately, in this country, it’s now called an “insurrection” like the Boston Tea Party was when dem white folks “supremacists” do it.
cold masses in the winter months will bring about a burning of their cities... the people will do this to stay warm.
Communist SOB’s push this green BS on it’s people. People get PO’d, communists green SOB’s then crack down on citizens. For their own good, of course.
I despise communists.
Here comes Turnip Winter II.
Hmmm... Germany facing “social unrest.” That doesn’t tend to end well...
Thank a liberal
They are rock-solid on Nord Stream II never coming on. As for NS-1, without that ‘pump’ being picked up by the Russians and activated....it won’t be pumping.
I’d describe the national leadership as a group of ‘elephants’ just standing without an idea on how to proceed. It appears the coal-powered plants will continue on, and a long discussion on the three nuke plants is underway. There’s even some chatter on approving fracking within Germany.
Rope sales have skyrocketed
There may be riots, mayhem and deaths from lack of energy, but at least they are taking a stand to stop Climate Change.
Sickening collateral damage, in their faux Green war.
Germany has a bad habit of screwing up their economy, blaming others, and starting world wars...

“I told myself it was beneath my dignity to arrest a man for pilfering firewood. But nothing ordered by the Party is beneath the dignity of any man. And the Party was right: one man desperate for a bit of fuel is pathetic; five million people desperate for fuel will destroy a city. “ —from the movie Dr Zhivago.
Germany cities are already cutting back on lighting and hot water in a bid to avert disaster.....the presidential palace in Berlin is no longer lit at night, the city of Hanover is turning off warm water in the showers of its pools and gyms, and municipalities across the country.
If they can’t fnd this off the government has the power to declare a gas “emergency,” which would involve the state taking control of distribution and deciding who gets the fuel and who doesn’t.
Any questioning of government policy is “extremist” according to the Corporate Media in Germany which is just a mouthpiece for the regime.
