Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) said Thursday on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360 ” that the United States could not be considered a nation of laws if former President Donald Trump was not prosecuted.
CNN chief national affairs analyst Kasie Hunt said, “Some have expressed concern that prosecuting former President Trump which turned him into a martyr and potentially add to his political strength for the base that follows him pretty rabidly. Do you share that concern? Do you have any concern that the prosecution would strengthen Donald Trump’s political hand?”
Cheney said, “I don’t think that it is appropriate to think about it that way because the question for us is, are we a nation of laws? Are we a country where no one is above the law? And with that, the facts and the evidence shows. Certainly, I have been very clear, and I think he is clearly guilty of the most derelict of duty of any president of our nation’s history. A federal judge in California said that it is more likely than not that he and John Eastman committed two crimes. I think that we are going to continue to follow facts and that the Department of Justice will do that. They had to make decisions about prosecution, understanding what it means if the facts and evidence are there and they decide not to prosecute. How do we then call ourselves a nation of laws? I think it’s very serious balance.”

Cheney had better first decide what he can be prosecuted for & then consider if it’s legit, & then look at all the Democrats out there who should have been prosecuted a long time ago, but never were.

If Trump is prosecuted I well regard that as proof positive that our law is dismissed and that illegitimates have stolen the nation.
I am not so sure about that.
Seems like we are more a nation of laws for the law abiding.
I run a red light, I get a ticket, if I don't pay it the police show up at my door and I get arrested.
But if I am a career criminal and rob a store they will not chase me. If I do get caught I am release with no bail and if I do not show up for my court date no one cares.

What Dick and the Bushes and the rest of the GOPe don't understand is that the Left and their Deep State collaborators are counting on them seeing everything through their conventional political lenses.
Good old-fashioned politicians, Democrats and Republicans, are living in the past while the country is being stolen right out from under their noses.
So, if according to her, we are a nation of laws following the rule of law, then how is it her kangaroo court can present so-called “evidence” and Trump is not allowed any legal representation to counter their fake charges? (Wait, I see. If he was allowed legal representation, then it wouldn’t be a real kangaroo court.)
In a nation of laws, defendants are allowed to defend themselves including, specifically, to cross-examine witnesses. Also, once jeopardy attaches, defendants are protected from double jeopardy. The first is in the 6th Amendment, and the second is in the 5th Amendment. People who take an oath of office to defend the Constitution should know what it says. This includes butch lesbians and daughters of draft-dodging warmongers. The January 6th thing is reminiscent of the burning of the Reichstag. Demonizing your political opponents shows that you really don’t support democracy.
