Another of Putin's prized £3million T-90 supertanks is blown sky high in Ukraine when attack 'by Kyiv forces' hits ammo inside and causes a spectacular explosion Latest footage emerges of elite Russian tank exploding as internal ammo struck

More than 20 of the £3million vehicles are thought wrecked so far in Ukraine First built in the early-90s, new versions have become a premium weapon of war But even cheap Ukrainian rockets have reportedly seen the T-90 blown to pieces

Yet another advanced Russian T-90 tank has been destroyed in Ukraine, dramatic footage shows.

The £3million weapon of war was thought to be one of the world's premier tanks, but a spate of destructions since Russia's invasion began has thrown that into doubt.

Video posted on Telegram channel Butusov Plus appears to show the T-90, nicknamed the 'Vladimir', obliterated after its own ammunition is struck by a rocket.

Ukrainian veteran Butusov, who has more than half a million YouTube subscribers, claimed the attack was carried out by the air defence force in Kharkiv.\

Within a few hours, the incredible footage had well over 80,000 YouTube views.

At least 20 Russian T-90 tanks plus two advanced T-90Ms, first built in 2016, are estimated to have been destroyed so far, open intelligence source Onyx claims.

As of this morning, the Ukrainian army claims to have destroyed a total of 1,792 tanks, up three from yesterday.

The vast majority are the less advanced T-72s, but at least a handful of T-90s are also thought to have been wrecked since the outbreak of war on February 24.

Not true. T-72s, T-80s, and T-90s all have 3 man crews due to autoloaders. That leaves driver, gunner, and commander - 3.

I first saw that super heavy tank at the Patton Museum at Fort Knox. I have yet to see it at its new tank walk home at nearby Fort Benning (I live a few miles across the river from Benning on the Alabama side).

Many Russian tanks get knocked out, not by super expensive Javelins or Euro equivalents but with your get-close-and-fire MAW, Panzerfaust, or RPG. An expensive tank like an Abrams survives a hit from an RPG-7 while my nostalgic and beloved M60A1-Rise would be a catastrophic kill from the same hit. But even the old-fashioned bazooka-class weapons are getting better warheads without going into the crazy level of money.

In war, losses happen.

On July 30, 1845, the heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis was attacked and sunk by a Japanese sub. That didn't mean Japan was winning the war.

I’m thinking the same. For tank on tank, there is no match for the M1A1. But it will just be another battlefield rust bucket in a protracted ground war against a peer level opponent.

Agreed, and Russia’s Kornet is no slouch. But if one side achieves air dominance or even air superiority, tanks will be death traps. Much of this war has been textbook “how not to use tanks in battle”, at least in the western style of warfare where a primary goal is to minimize casualties. I hope we are taking good notes.

Didn’t we also lose some Commanding Marine Officers in the War with Mexico, and keep advancing?

To my knowledge we have had casualties in tank crews with an Abrams but as of years ago we have not had an Abrams damaged to the point that we couldn’t repair it. Abrams also have reactive armor which reduces the damage from RPGs Or artillery rounds.

That I do not know but at Okinawa on June 18 1945, just 4 days before organized resistance ended, Marine General Simon Bolivar Buckner was killed by Japanese artillery.

The reactive armor is for RPGs and the type of weapons that use shaped charges. It defeats them by blowing up just as the RPG makes contact, spreading the explosion out to a large area instead of a point. The physical armor is a special layered material that defeats AP rounds by simply not allowing it to penetrate. At least that’s what I understand.
