All I know that the “horseless carriage” didn’t need the government to subsidize Henry Ford...

On that, I agree with you.

I’ve never seen or heard of an “Ample”.

Actually, electric vehicles could make sense for the fleets of small trucklets that are used to deliver mail in my semi-rural residential area. We've got mailboxes every 150 feet for miles, and it's a good match for smaller electric transport because it's stop/go/stop/go for hours.

True. But EVs are expensive. A typical ICE car would cost 20k. An EV would cost 50k. Might be worth it in long run but after 10 years, you'll have to replace the batteries. ICE vehicles will still be running in 30 years, if the Post Office decides to purchase them.

allow common carriers like Amazon,

Do you have any idea how much of Amazon stuff is delivered by the USPS? More than half of the stuff I order on Amazon comes via USPS and they deliver on Sunday too.

Thanks. I’ve viewed presentations like that before. If the
Left doesn’t convince you we’re all gonna die, there’s some
folks on the right who will be happy as can be to join them
to make sure you are.

Are we seeing workers drop dead? You would think we would
be the way some of these folks talk.

I think both sides go too far to prove their point.

I’m rather surprised that some of the big players in home
delivery are jumping on this. Can’t remember names right
now, but I’ve read of some of the big players putting in
orders for big fleets.

Not sure I’d be buying in on that right now.

Thank you for the interesting comments.

Well, those are some good drivers there.

I think some ICE folks are going to be surprised at how
well this works out in the long run.

I honestly don’t care which format wins out.

In my opinion, the market will decide.

“I’m rather surprised that some of the big players in home
delivery are jumping on this.”

And also local buses. They tried a couple in my town and they disappeared.

But batteries do own the golf cart market!

In San Antonio’s Riverwalk circular river, the tour boats are battery powered. I had an operator show me the batteries — six car batteries per boat. Run all day.

In this application battery power is very nice because they’re quiet as they move among the downtown buildings.

They have also made a lot of improvements on ICE vehicles too
over the last several decades. The cars are quiet, and they
seem to produce very little smog.

In pick-up line at a fast food place, you can see the exhaust
emitted by the cars in front of you. I can’t even see
anything coming out. We know CO2 does, but I’m just not
in panic mode over it.

People have said that the planet couldn’t take any more
population for the last 100 years, yet look at us today.
There isn’t the type of mass starvation that there should
be if the human race were cratering, and if we did a
better job, world hunger would cease to exist at all
> IMO.

I think that’s a big part of why they are screwing with the
food. They’re going to blame it all on overpopulation.
It will be mismanagement.

Battery vehicles have their place too. We all need to
accept other people’s choices and move on.

I firmly believe big government is handling the transition
all wrong. The marketplace should decide. The government
should keep it’s nose out of it.

I agree with your post. On food, though, wonder if the world’s food production is becoming too dependent on chemical fertilizers, which require natural gas to produce, which means for some nations dependency on faraway, not always friendly places for the natural gas.

What would happen if the world tried to do agriculture without chemical fertilizer?

Welll, it’s a fair question.

It’s been in use for a long time.

Is there an issue that has surfaced that reveals that top soil is being
rendered useless.

Crops themselves draw out nutrients from the ground. You either have
to rotate crops or use fertilize to replace.

I started on SS a decade ago and it was DD only back then, so it must be only the elderly who can get checks now.

Amazon has ordered a bunch of electric vans.
It may be “green-washing” but they’ll evaluate how well they do.

I agree. It just seems like a pretty big risk. I would think they’d
Test market it. Maybe they are, but I’ve gotten the impression these
aren’t just isolated small tests.

“You either have to rotate crops ...”

Or don’t plant at all for a season.

Maybe home gardens will become more popular.

I would encourage people to get into that.

You can grow more than you think in many apartments.

I think it takes more than one year. I may be wrong on that.

What farmer can survive on one crop every two or three years?

“and it’s a good match for smaller electric transport because it’s stop/go/stop/go for hours.”

Exactly. And that description fits the majority of postal delivery routes. UPS and other private delivery services are electrifying their truck fleets for the same reason.
