A Sure-Fire Dead End to Achieve Climate Goals: Electrifying the U.S. Postal Service Fleet

Congress undoubtedly has a lot of options to consider when it comes expanding the usage of renewable energy. The challenges facing lawmakers involve a variety of sizable risks and pitfalls, in what amounts to a complex chess game. But in order to properly succeed in this game, Congress and the Administration should never consider sacrificing key government agencies as pawns.

Unfortunately, it appears that the United States Postal Service (USPS) is at risk of being “captured” in the proverbial chess game that is Washington politics. In what would amount to a serious strategic error, some Capitol Hill leaders are now considering an illogical spending package for new USPS vehicles in their pursuit to greenify everything.

Earlier this year, the Postal Service reiterated its vehicle preferences for gasoline-powered delivery trucks over electric vehicles. If you are like me, you might be suspicious of a government agency that is resisting the change to new technology. But this decision is consistent with a supplier agreement the USPS reached in 2020 and reflects the agency’s aims for cost-effectiveness, performance reliability, alignment with existing infrastructure, and other practical matters.

Not a big fan of Hannity but he did himself a favor and had Charles Payne on a couple of days ago.

Payne breaks down exactly what’s going on with EVs and its worse than I thought.....a TOTAL scam that’s actually worse for the environment than ICE vehicles could ever be.

Starts at 1:20 Unbelievable

IIRC ‘AAA’ already has some trucks outfitted for EVs.

“They should build swappable battery packs.”

Just like the power tools. Great idea that I’ve also thought of but car battery packs would have to be swapped out by lifts that worked underneath the cars, and the batteries would have to be all the same size.

“Electrifying a fleet of trucks?”

How about doing one town and seeing how that works out before jumping in whole hog.

If the avoirdupois privileged in the US slimmed to an easy 23% body fat then the resultant drop in carbon emissions would be equal to taking 130,000,000 cars off the road, dousing every light in Las Vegas and we could power 2,200 round trip missions to Mars carbon neutral.

Yeah, seniors don’t necessarily like getting junk mail any more than anyone else but the businesses that pay for them to be mailed safely will be p.o.ed!

What happens when these vehicles burst into flames while carrying the monthly SS checks?

More likely for a gas powered vehicle to burst into flames.

Just imagine how much a stamp is going to cost so they can pay their electric bills.

The price of stamps will double every few years when they have to replace the batteries.

They maybe dying off but plenty of oldsters don’t trust direct deposit but do trust getting the checks in the mail and going to the bank.

My mom said we one of them.

I do some work with clients in this area, and I would point out that for certain classes of commercial vehicles — mainly delivery vans and small trucks — we have reached the point where the total cost of ownership (TCO) is lower for EVs than for ICEs. A lot of it depends on the use of the vehicle and its functionality, but the big thing these EVs have going for them is: (1) lower (and more reliable) energy costs, and (2) much lower maintenance costs.

One thing keeping more commercial interests from adopting them in large numbers is that they still haven’t managed to come up with a solid estimate of the depreciated value of an EV over time.

Plus the horses would be “green”

As would be their “deposits” along their routes!

Most government checks are electronically deposited & have been for some time. Don’t know how the homeless get theirs.

It will go nicely with WEF’s “cashless” society plans.

#ComDem’s don’t care if anything they advocate “works”.

It is not about logic or analysis. It is always about the agenda.

Cloward - Piven in spades.

The laws of physics precludes electric autos from being a solution. There is NO WAY they will be practical, until someone figures out how to put a nuke electric power source in one. (Imagine that security nightmare)

NUTS!

Not any different than the current trucks. They catch on fire at least once a week.
