JALANDHAR: After the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) wrote to the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) about Yuma Border Patrol's practice of confiscating Sikhs' turbans during asylum processing, an internal investigation has been opened to address the issue, according to US media reports quoting CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus.
In its seven-page letter dated August 1, ACLU pointed out that they along with their organizational partners in Arizona documented nearly 50 cases of asylees arriving from Yuma in the last two months who reported that their religious headwear had been taken away by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and never returned or replaced.
The ACLU communication flagged the blatantly violation of federal law in following this practice. "They are also inconsistent with CBP's own national standards and contrary to the agency's non-discrimination policy, which states that 'CBP employees must treat all individuals with dignity and respect ...with full respect for individual rights including...freedom of....religion.' We ask that you promptly investigate these civil-rights violations and direct agents in the Yuma Border Patrol Sector to immediately cease these unlawful practices. Furthermore, we respectfully request a meeting in the meantime to discuss your plan to remedy the situation," says the letter to the CBP Commissioner.

Maybe in Punjab they are forced to wear turbans, which is worse than having your turban snatched away when you're attesting you insist on wearing it.

Exactly. Enter my country illegally, getting searched is the least of your worries. A little humiliation balanced against illegal drugs or weapons being smuggled. But to confiscate the turbans is insult to injury.

Pakistan was once part of the original Sikh homeland. Since the partition of India into India, Pakistan and Bangladesh they’ve pretty much disappeared from Pakistan and are catching hell from the muzzies in the Punjab.

However, I think my Rotten Shepherd is a racist dog...lol, she starts barking every time she sees one. It was quite a sight, picking up my grandson after school. She'd be real friendly toward the kids, and getting all that attention, until she sees a father who's a Sikh. Does a 180 on me.
