A jury in Austin ordered Alex Jones to pay $4.1 million to the parents who lost children in the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School who sued the InfoWars host for defamation.

Jones was sued by the parents after the radio host and conspiracy theorist said the Sandy Hook massacre, the deadliest mass shooting at a U.S. elementary school, was “completely fake” and a “giant hoax” during a 2017 radio show. Opening statements and testimony for the trial began last week, and the jury broke for deliberations on Wednesday.

He must have been representing himself, because a good lawyer should have been able to get such a case tossed.

Apparently Jones' lawyer shared the entire contents of his cell phone with the prosecution.

It seems to be a trend that the enemies of the Deep State find the most inept legal representation possible.

“Lawyers have done more to damage the law than any other class of persons, including criminals.”

And most politicians are lawyers, so that would make sense.

If he has to pay $4.1 million imagine how much Trump should be paid for the Russia-Russia-Russia lies.

” At almost 75 years of age, this old lady could care less what anyone says about me. I’ll be meeting my maker in the not-too-distant-future. He knows what kind of person that I am, and have been during my lifetime.”

Ignore the idiot; his comment was an absurdity.

God knows who you are; trust in Him. As I’m sure you do.

In spite of Mr Jones aleging a real event was a scam or a hoax, and in spite of deaths that occurreed in the event, since when do mere feelings about those things constitute “defeamation”.

Exactly. The legal system is full of idiots, liars, and corruption... and that's just the Judges.

Jones isn’t a hero. He’s a money grubbing con man.

Who happens to be right a lot of the time.

I don't keep up with him, but i've seen a list of stuff he predicted and when, and he usually turns out to be correct.

Supreme Court precedent holds that punitive damages that exceed an approx ratio of 9:1 to compensatory damages are unconstitutional. $36M nothing to sneeze at. That’s what one gets for being a loudmouth fool + putting yourself into the position of having your default entered in the case

Criminals also covers many politicians.

Ever wonder why Club Fed used to be so nice? Maybe it was because politicians realized that they or people they knew might end up there?

George V was killed by his doctor, apparently so the correct sort of news papers would report it first.

How likely is that number to be larger?

Very, very likely. These were actual damages. Punitive damages are awarded tomorrow.

Oh come on. I could knock on your neighbors’ doors and tell them you’re a child molester. I could go to someones place of employment and say they’re a child molester.

What makes you think calling someone a child molester is the equivalent of saying you think a shooting was a hoax?

You can lose your job from that accusation. You can get arrested from that accusation.

How is the plantiff injured in any way from some nut on a radio saying he thinks the whole thing was a hoax? Do they lose jobs, money or freedom? Do they lose respect from anyone they care about?

A closer analogy to what you propose would be suggesting someone killed their own kid.

Don't use false equivalencies.

I don't consider it amusing to see a run amok legal system dispensing something other than justice. We see far to much non justice being dispensed nowadays.

Punitive damages are by their very nature and intent excessive, they should not exist in this country. There should only be monetary damages.

So defamation and slander should have no repercussions? No punishment? Punitive damages are, by their very definition, the punishment for the defendants actions. They're what is supposed to make people like Jones think twice before speaking and maybe make sure what they are saying is true.

Exactly right. I was shocked about how many here on FR said jones is getting what he deserves b/c he’s a loon or a jerk, or whatever...

So easy to sit here and say the left is dragging this country down but damn it, I see folks here doing the same shit.

This man is getting sued for exercising free speech and folks here are cheering it.
