Pedro Pierluisi, the incumbent Governor and a Democrat, gave the following statements:

“We see once again that no one is above the law in Puerto Rico. At these news that certainly affect and damage our people’s trust, I reiterate that my administration will continue having a common front with the federal authorities against all who commit an improper act, wherever it comes from and whoever is implicated, as well as promoting initiatives and following up on legislative bills that have been presented to fight corruption. We all have to be united against this social ill, and my administration has zero tolerance for corruption.”

It all sounds nice, but Pierluisi appears to have already declared Vázquez guilty.
