Alignable's July Rent Report is being released right now, based on a poll that concluded this morning, conducted among 3,553 small business owners .

It shows that rent struggles are severe for several small business sectors, including transportation (trucking companies & car services), restaurants , retail shops, and beauty salons. What's the cause according to SMBs? Rent hikes, labor costs/the ongoing labor shortage, the high price of gas, and reduced consumer spending are all combining to create economic instability.

Pizz Hut in Ellsworth Maine.

Worker shortage: no home delivery, no salad bar, closes at 7p.m. It looks like only two people working at a time.

The pain is just getting started.

Why is it happening?

A huge misalignment of labor and capital since the dot.com bust.

Remember the dot.com bust, that was 40 guys burning through cash in Santa Clara.(I’m not being literal here, just being funny)

20 plus years later more cash is going to get burned up. Stay tuned “its going to get wild.”

How much of the labor supply doesn’t exist or is sitting in a classroom?

Secondly, the last thing the current labor supply needs to be doing is working dead end jobs and serving retirees food.

They need to be looking at the trades, where they can make more money so they can afford the bloated real estate sector.

Hard to fathom when we've been told "No One Out-Pizzas the Hut!"

Small businesses are the “backbone” of our society.
They don’t pay shit. because they can’t.
Things like restaurants, bars, gyms, hair and nail places et al are optional expenses so are the first to be curtailed.
In other words, a economy based on services is inherently unstable.
The big question is how to provide for all the idiots and not be enslaved by them.
The original American framework was probably the best anybody has come up with to date.
Delete all amendments after the original ten and start over.

At the local Mediterranean burger/Kebab/Shwarma joint, a deluxe burger went from $10.50 to $18.50. I feel bad for them, I’d like them to stay there but I’m not paying $20 all-in for a burger. At least not yet. Fortunately they appear to have some traffic.

I could not agree with you more. The trades or engineering technology programs at 2 and 4 year college is the way to go.

However, if you are 16 or 17 working as an over night stocker at Wal-Mart will earn you $20.00 per hour.

“no home delivery”

I find that odd that PH normally pairs with Uber eats or Postmates.

Good point. Our pizza hut had its own delivery person.
I don’t think we have Uber here but I believe we have Door Dash.
