Russia’s population shrank by a record average of 86,000 people a month between January and May, state statistics agency Rosstat has said.

The rate of Russia’s population decline has almost doubled since 2021 and nearly tripled since 2020, according to The Moscow Times’ Russian service.

In Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s AUGUST 1914, two characters speculate on Russia’s future. They said that the dynamic center of Russia would move north and east and that perhaps the population would be 350 million by 1950. It is currently near 141 million. Nigeria has a greater population at 210 million. The Czar’s Russian empire was larger but not enough to make up for that shocking low population figure.

One of the most beautiful and talented Russians left Moscow after the invasion because she said she was ashamed of her country. Olga Smirnova is a superstar prima Ballerina and now resides in Holland.

The UN will push to settle millions of sub-Saharan Africans and Muslims to make up the lost population and diversify Russia.

There certainly seems to be an endless supply of military-aged men looking to escape from the ME and entire African continent.

They have a lot of people, but demographic trends like this can definitely change a nation.

China wants (and has a claim to) Outer Manchuria. While Outer Manchuria is not the direct threat that Taiwan is politically and internally, I have always believed that China would take it back from Russia and likely target the largest untapped reservoir of natural resources in the world after that (Siberia).

China and Russia appear to have aligned interests at the moment, but they are and will always be enemies.

Smirnova is approaching 31 yrs old. She started about 16. A typical dancer lasts 10 years. Or less. The exceptions are for ballet company donations hype. They can’t dance even remotely approaching their best past their late 20s. It’s much like gymnastics.

She was milking the situation. She’ll generate some money for the Dutch company, and cost an actual younger talent a job otherwise deserved.

Oh, Speedy, Russia isn’t fretting. It’s about to gain millions of Russian speaking people in eastern Ukraine. In a few months, everything east of the Napier rive in Ukraine will be part of the Russian Federation.

Old at 31? Tell that to Maya Plisetskaya. Not many dance as well as she into old age but the normal path for prima ballerinas is to move toward being an actress and/or a choreographer and/or a director. Plisetskaya did it all. Agnes DeMille moved from the corps d’ ballet into modern dance and into choreography.

I believe Smirnova is very sincere in her disgust with Putin’s Russia. Plisetskaya also had political troubles. Her father was “an enemy of the people” and was executed in one of Stalin’s purges.

It’s shrinking at 7.1% or thereabouts. Losing the core 40 and below at record amounts.

China will take over just by sheer numbers.

Israel has really benefited by young eager Russian (and Ukrainian) immigrants. They are both steadily moving our country right ward.

Many people won’t be around over the next 2 decades.

Notice you don’t see me crying - I for one would love to see Russia continuing to decline in population while other countries carve them up. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer group of people. There is the issue of missiles however….

“Drinking vodka lowers the libido.”

I harangue female students at Auburn about the dangers of binge drinking and premature aging of the skin but of course there are lots of dangers. Many of the young male students seem to prefer to get falling down drunk rather than to pursue the beautiful coeds and it seems so unmasculine.

Looking at porn and having sex with one’s self does not add to the human race either.

It also leads to impotence IMHO.

Russia is in the same boat the rest of the world is in.

Russia has fewer people than Bangladesh and lower GDP than NYC.

Very hard to sustain a war economically and occupy a hostile power.

Population growth has been slower for cold weather states and nations. Just compare states like MI and GA, NY and FL

until automation of mundane tasks is achieved, a growing population is one of the prerequisites for an advanced industrial society to continue to advance knowledge and the application of said knowledge to improved/advanced quality of life ... contrarily, a shrinking population will result in shrinking quality of life ...

258,723,655 abortions in USSR 1954-1990.

“Despite a significant reduction in the abortion to birth ratio since the mid-1990s, the countries of the former Soviet Union maintain the highest rate of abortions in the world.”

—”demographic trends like this can definitely change a nation.”

Has ANY nation recovered from a long-term declining birth rate by an increasing native birth rate?

Immigration, yes; the locals not so much.

Some say “Demography is destiny.”
