Pelosi expected to visit Taiwan, Taiwanese and US officials say
CNN ^ | 8/1/22 | Eric Cheung

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to visit Taiwan as part of her tour of Asia, according to a senior Taiwanese government official and a US official, despite warnings from Biden administration officials, who are worried about China’s response to such a high-profile visit.

The stop – the first for a US House speaker in 25 years – is not currently on Pelosi’s public itinerary and comes at a time when US-China relations are already at a low point.

The Taiwanese official added that she is expected to stay in Taiwan overnight. It is unclear when exactly Pelosi will land in Taipei.

Something tells me the higher temperature between us and the Chicoms is done with November in mind. The Chicoms know it and just might play along.

U.S. deploys ships and planes near Taiwan as Pelosi eyes visit

TOKYO — The U.S. military is moving assets, including aircraft carriers and large planes, closer to Taiwan ahead of an anticipated but unconfirmed visit to the island by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The military was initially opposed to the speaker’s visit but now looks to be creating a buffer zone for Pelosi’s plane, in case she decides to go ahead with the controversial stop.

But with China declaring that it would “never sit idly by” if she were to visit the island, tensions in East Asia have quickly escalated, perhaps against the will of both U.S. President Joe Biden, who was seeking to remove some tariffs on Chinese goods to counter inflation, and Chinese President Xi Jinping, who faces a sensitive political season at home with his rule extension on the line.

A reporter for local network TVBS tweeted that the speaker is expected to arrive in Taiwan on Tuesday evening.

She is in Singapore today.

If she goes to Malaysia next, that would be a one day stop in order to make it to Taiwan Tuesday evening.

I can’t imagine that these brief stops are useful.

How can the rest of the world — or more accurately the rest of the world that cares — defend Taiwan? I have a similar ignorance about Ukraine.

The Taiwan ADZ extends far to the south and west to cover Pratas Island and the surrounding waters.

The Chinese often overfly this part of the ADZ. It is not really that close to Taiwan.

On the other hand, it is in the flight path from Kuala Lumpur to Taipei.

Japan group to aid Taipei’s CPTPP bid

The Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association (JTEA) is prioritizing helping Taiwan gain entry into the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), Japanese Representative to Taiwan Hiroyasu Izumi said yesterday.

Joining the trade agreement would be important to “maintaining the status quo [in the Taiwan Strait] and ensuring Taiwan’s survival,” association head Izumi said at a forum organized by the Lee Teng-hui Foundation in Taipei to discuss Taiwan-Japan relations.

I would have been a little less apprehensive about such a visit under Trump because he wouldn’t have allowed the US to be bullied by China and our military wasn’t the politically correct shit show that it is now becoming. Biden and Nancy are both owned by China so any visit by Pelosi will only lead to increased hostilities toward Taiwan that the vassal occupying the Oval Office will do nothing about.

Aren’t both Nan and Joe properties of the CCP?

Seems like they might be playing the roles our Chinese friends want.
