Sen. Joe Manchin said that negotiations with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on the $739 billion spending bill went on for months because of concerns that the legislation would further stoke already high inflation rates.
The moderate West Virginia Democrat, whose opposition to President Biden’s $2 trillion Build Back Better Act sunk the measure in December, said he started working with Schumer on the pared down package in the spring – part of a process that was occasionally interrupted by rising inflation rates.

When is Leahy returning from his broken hip? Right now Republicans outnumber Dems 50-49.
[But since he is a Democrat it takes a lot more courage to go against the rest of the Democrats in the way he did.]
If Manchin doesn’t flip to the GOP, he is done. If he does this deal, even if he flips later, he’s done anyway. If Manchin becomes a born-again Republican, I could see Morrissey running against him in the primary just to settle some unfinished business from 2018.
* In 2012, Morrissey won AG by 2.5%. In 2016, he won by 10%. In 2020, he won by 28%. You can almost read the writing on the wall for 2024.

ZERO IMPACT on reducing inflation!
Is Sinema supporting the bill, or is there still a question mark about her?
I agree with how red WV is, but even so, there are TONS of Democrats (and even Republicans) in office who don’t seem to notice what state they’re from...instead they look at this as their BIG CHANCE.
Take Court Packing and the Filibuster, for example. With both in place House Bill 1 (again, to steal elections) would be the law of the land, and any complaints that the Republicans would be taken up by a court system that is OWNED by the DNC...so Manchin would still not have to worry about re-election, other than maybe getting Primaried out, but even that would be unlikely if he supporting packing and court expansion.
So, with the above in place, short of a violent uprising (rather than a quick walk-through of the Capitol), there would not be a DAMN THING we could do about it. They Democrat DREAM to destroy this country would have everything in place. Manchin, so far, has prevented that and we’re DAMN LUCKY he did.
And don’t get me wrong - I have not and will not ever vote for a Democrat (or independent) for national office, or push doing the same, even if the Republican was as uncouth as Trump with a voting record of Susan Collins - he/she would STILL get my vote. 30 years ago there was a small overlap between parties, now there simply isn’t a single Democrat that I know of who’s to the right of our worst Republicans.
They are running cover for this Judas choad.
"Manchin: Talks with Schumer on spending plan slowed by inflation concerns [emphasis added]"
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
What's really slowing down the Manchin / Schumer constitutionally indefensible, desparate Democratic election year spending plan is this. Neither Manchin or Schumer have introduced a resolution to propose a new amendment to the Constitution that, if the states chose to ratify proposed amendment, would give Congress the specific new powers that it needs to pass Manchin's bill in the first place.
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
The congressional record shows that Rep. John Bingham, the main author of Section 1 of the 14th Amendment, had clarified that the delegates to the Constitutional Convention had left the care of the people uniquely to the states, not the feds.
”Simply this, that the care of the property, the liberty, and the life of the citizen, under the solemn sanction of an oath imposed by your Constitution, is in the States and not in the federal government [emphases added]. I have sought to effect no change in that respect in the Constitution of the country.” —John Bingham, Congressional. Globe. 1866, page 1292 (see top half of third column)
"From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]." —United States v. Butler, 1936.
Insights welcome.
Speaking of election year, Trump's red tsunami of patriot supporters are reminded that they must vote twice this election year. Your first vote is to primary career RINO incumbents in federal and state governments. Your second vote is to replace outgoing Democrats and RINOs with Trump-endorsed patriot candidates.
Again, insights welcome.
Their plan is to get money into the pockets of their friends and family nothing else
And burnish up Manchin’s leftist credentials so he can make a play for 2024 Prez contest. He’s deluded on that but if you have to have a delusion make it a big one!
Manchin sat in the shiny Lamborghini in the horseshoe driveway of his new mansion and looked at the envelope stuffed with non sequential cash and thought "There has to be a way I can thank Chuck Shumer for all this. He's so kind."
One way or the other Congre$$ alway$ find way$ to continue to grab money and make $ure the DC $wamp continue$ to grow and enrich it$elf.
Well apparently those concerns are now over with for Manchin since he wants to spend several hundred billion extra dollars on another supplemental bill and raise taxes on corporations which will further raise the prices of goods and services and end planned long term investment in the United States - from which we may never fully recover even if this bill is later reversed. Investors are not going to make long term plans in the United States if the tax rates are going to keep changing. Our lower rates gave us a competitive advantage against other nations, and blunted the effect of tariffs by lowering our own cost of production. That is all being thrown out the window.
Manchin votes for "climate change" policy in the dishonestly named "Inflation Reduction" bill but gets pipeline for WV. Who knows what else.
Dont worry they will find a way to get that cadavers vote
And burnish up Manchin’s leftist credentials so he can make a play for 2024 Prez contest. He’s deluded on that but if you have to have a delusion make it a big one!
I can picture Joe saying: “No, no, no. Look here. This plan will lower inflation, not raise it. Don’t you understand? C’MON, MAN!”
It will, thanks for nothing Joe.
