When Kansans head to the polls on Aug. 2 to vote in their primary election, they will also decide on a critical ballot measure that could impact the future of abortion legislation in their state.
Kansas is the first state in the nation to vote on reproductive freedom after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending the constitutional right to abortion. It is one of at least five states voting on reproductive rights this year, alongside California, Kentucky, Montana and Vermont. A measure that would amend the Michigan constitution to guarantee the right to reproductive freedom has also been proposed.
If the amendment passes, Kansas will be the fifth state to amend its state constitution to say it does not grant the right to abortion, joining Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee and West Virginia.
The amendment has drawn national attention, particularly in the wake of the last month's Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization.
"I think a lot of people see the vote here as a kind of indicator of where politics might be headed," Richard E. Levy, JB Smith Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Kansas School of Law, told ABC News.

Will “ballots” mailed from California be accepted?
Asking for a friend?
And this is the way it should be. There are many problems with the election system, some accidental, some not, but the determination of a medical procedure like this should be in the hands of the people actually effected and not by a court case that should have nothing to do with the federal governments unconstitutional determination of how people run their lives thousands of miles away.
I have no doubt that the vote count will be purposely changed, but it is a step in the right direction if they can do enough to sit on the outcome to make it legit. And already realizing the possibilities of cheating a vote, which have been identified in the 2020, just not enforced, can give the people in charge an opportunity to try to see they don’t happen again and that true vote can be determined.

“to amend its state constitution to say it does not grant the right to abortion”
Don’t you love the MSM double negative world ?
They play twisty so often with sentences.
“reproductive freedom”
I love the way the communist leftist use language. It can say whatever they mean it to.
Kansas and the American people oppose abortion by a wide margin. If the Pro-Life measure does not pass by >86% to 14% we will know the voting process in Kansas was corrupted.
I have no leftist friends.
I read it twice so my apologies if I missed it in this article but another important thing to know is:
Unaffiliated and ‘3rd party’ voters can vote in this primary. Any registered Kansas voter can vote on the ballot issue not just those registered D or R.
What fantasy world are you living in?
What say you now?
I find it hard to believe that a conservative state like Kansas, a state that has a strong Republican Party and far more Republican voters than Democrat voters would vote Pro Abortion.
