"Of course, we will fulfil all our obligations to our partners, but the decision to leave this station after 2024 has been made," Yury Borisov, who was appointed Roscosmos chief in mid-July, told Putin.

"I think that by this time we will start putting together a Russian orbital station," Borisov added, calling it the space programme's main "priority".

"Good," Putin replied in comments released by the Kremlin.

As of this writing, only Russia is set up to transport people to and from the ISS on a regular basis, though this is supposed to change soon.

The toilets are backed up and all the screen doors are falling of their hinges. The Russkis don’t want to foot the repair bills.

When it is time for the ISS to de-orbit will Taco Bell tow a target out into the ocean and give everyone a free taco if the station hits it? Like they did with MIR.

No Tang or Food Sticks even. What the heck did we get from the ISS except finding out that Space hates humans?

I hope NASA changes the keys and locks on the place. We will need to have someone up there permanently or they might break in and take stuff.

The US and USSR space programs were jump-started by the infusion of Nazi scientists on both sides. We have since grown our own rocket scientists; I wonder how much the post-USSR Russians have been able to grown their own, or if their technology is lagging. (The Chinese stole everything they know, but that’s a separate issue.)

The ISS is old, obsolete and worn out.

No more than the ISS, which isn’t very important.

The US should be ditching this pile of junk, too, but we’re big on wasting taxpayer money.

I am glad, that a large part of the Russian booster engine stockpile has been used up, though. It’s a better use than the original intent.

NASA does not even have the technology to get to the space station.

Perhaps they can use magic spells to change the keys and locks!
