God of the Garden
Read: Genesis 3:8–13

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day. Genesis 3:8

Many years ago, Joni Mitchell wrote a song called “Woodstock” in which she saw the human race trapped in a “bargain” with the devil. Urging her listeners to seek a simpler, more peaceful existence, she sang of a return to “the garden.” Mitchell spoke for a generation longing for purpose and meaning.

Mitchell’s poetical “garden” is Eden, of course. Eden was the paradise God created for us back in the beginning. In this garden, Adam and Eve met with God on a regular basis—until the day they made their bargain with the devil (see Genesis 3:6–7). That day was different. “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden” (v. 8).

When God asked what they’d done, Adam and Eve engaged in a lot of blame-shifting. Despite their denial, God didn’t leave them there. He “made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them” (v. 21), a sacrifice that hinted at the death Jesus would endure to cover our sins.

God didn’t give us a way back to Eden. He gave us a way forward into restored relationship with Him. We can’t return to the garden. But we can return to the God of the garden.Tim Gustafson

What stands between you and God today? What might you confess to Him in order to walk in “the cool of the day” with Him?

Father, help me not to blame others for my own faults and failures. Thank You that honesty with You means relationship with You.

Yo radu, sorry I didn't respond last night, crashed early.

Our heat is indeed creeping up, triple digits today and all week.

I saw the pups this weekend but Robin was off hanging with her sister.

Tomorrow is mowing day and I'm going to be starting real early and then hide inside with the A/C for the rest of the day.

Do they still have the Tinker burger? Years ago the transient maintenance was contractor run and they had the prettiest crew chiefs.

Howdy, PRO!

I saw y’all have excessive heat warnings up there these days. I feel for ya! We had them here and are glad to finally be out from under the gun. For now, at least.

I reckon the pups didn’t want to spend much time outside. Take care of business and head back for the AC. LOL

You must be getting some rain if you’re still mowing each week. Hubby hasn’t needed to mow for a couple of weeks now since it hasn’t grown since then. It’s just turned crunchy brown.

Howdy, Kathy.

Looking mighty breezy up there today. The trees are really dancing. I hope you were fortunate enough to get some of the rain that moved through this morning.

Great Road Trip, lauren!
I've made it many times.
Our son was stationed there for about 9 years.
Till he retired and moved away.
They lived in Moore
...and experienced many tornadoes, too.
They now live in Bryan. WooHoo!

I reckon you’re pretty familiar with Tinker Air Force Base if you went up there to visit over that many years. :-)

Hey there, radu!

I am in a way. Only went on base a few times. They didn’t live on base. David didn’t want to do that. Too much. LOL! It’s a nice, though small, base.

I can understand where they were coming from. Jamie didn’t want to live on base at Camp Lejeune either so I didn’t go on base all that much.
We lived in Sneads Ferry, which was a speck in the road at the time. I can’t believe how much it’s grown since then.
