Paris (AFP) – Air-conditioned shops in France will be ordered to keep their doors closed or risk being fined, a minister said Sunday announcing an upcoming rule to combat energy wastage.
Leaving the doors open when the air conditioning is on leads to "20 percent more consumption and... it's absurd," French Minister of Ecological Transition Agnes Pannier-Runacher told RMC radio.
The minister said there were also plans to restrict the use of illuminated signs.
"In the coming days, I will issue two decrees: the first will widen the ban on illuminated advertising, whatever the size of the city, between 1 am and 6 am", with the exception of airports and stations, Pannier-Runacher told the Journal du Dimanche newspaper.
"The second will ban shops from having their doors open while the air conditioning and heating are working".

You won’t believe me, but one time I was driving with a French model, on a nice day in soCal. She saw I had the air conditioner on but the windows were down. I like that cool breeze on my face. She said “the windows are down but you have the air conditioner on, what about the global warming?!”
I told her “hey, I’m trying to cool the outside all I can”.
Look on her face was priceless.
I would be in favor if they limited it to between 1 AM and 6 AM. (Normally I am against absurd regulations)
How will cops know when the air co dirioners, and not simp,y the ac .fans are on whole doors are open? Who gets to determine how long doors are open before a fine is issued?

This is cruel beyond measure. How will bums standing in doorways be able to keep cool?

I've been known to do the same. One day, my mother was in the car and she complained about it. She wasn't worried about global warming. She was worried about the electric bill.
Shop owners keep their doors open because their bills are too low?? How stupid is France.
Dad: “Close the door! I’m not paying to cool [or heat] the whole neighborhood!”
