EXCLUSIVE: Veteran who tried to assassinate NY gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin during campaign event is arrested on federal assault charge one day after he was freed under state's lax bail laws

The man who drunkenly attacked the Republican candidate for governor in New York was photographed being taken into custody by FBI, state and county police Saturday on federal assault charges, after being immediately released following the attack under the state's bail reform laws.

David Jakubonis, 43, an Army veteran, was arrested after allegedly attacking Zeldin with a $10 cat keyring weapon at the congressman's Thursday campaign rally for state governor, outside of Rochester, New York. He was released hours later.

But on Saturday, DailyMail.com cameras saw Jakubonis taken into custody by FBI, New York State police and deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

A six-car motorcade pulled into Jakubonis' apartment complex a little before noon on Saturday and left with Jakubonis in custody 15 minutes later.

He's set to make his first appearance in court Saturday afternoon in front of US Magistrate Judge Marion W. Payson.

A spokesperson for the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York confirmed the details to DailyMail.com.

Then I guess that Austin and his butt-plug, Milley haven’t sent out that memo yet, right?

geez... I looked at the Youtube video. That was NOT an assassination attempt, and it was BARELY an assault. If the jury sees that video they’ll slap the guy on the wrist and call it a day...

Horse tooth hochul posted campaign rally dates and said he was dangerous and needs to be stopped. She needs to be hauled out of that chair into the street

Attacking a federal official, any official, is a federal offense. Zeldon is a US Representative. The state of New York wimped out so the Feds stepped in. Actually, the Feds probably would have stepped in anyway since Zeldon is something of a pet RINO, IMHO.

The state will probably suspend prosecution actions now pending the outcome of the Fed prosecution. Also, prosecuting and convicting a person separately under State and Fed law is not double jeopardy.

Please correct any of this if I have misunderstood anything.

“Not at all, it’s really a very effective concealed stabbing weapon.”

“Let’s just say when I got over to her place immediately after she called me and the cops, two things were apparent: (1) she was a bit shook up, and (2) all the blood spattered everywhere wasn’t hers. Bastard ended up in the hospital then a nice long stint in jail. Probably still there.”

I hadn’t considered the non-metallic aspect of the Kitty Stabber, but I still think a quick opening folding knife would be a much more effective assassins’ weapon in just about any scenario.

A lady’s self defense keychain. Possibly the lamest assassination weapon ever.

Yes, but he had his fingers through the holes like one would with brass knuckles. I have no idea what kind of damage it could inflict if he had been able to get off a solid punch.

I bet the local FBI office is in trouble, because there’s no way Wray or Garland ordered the arrest.

Are you talking when on duty or when off duty? Not up to speed on Austin knife rules.

Oh yeah, you are correct. A good folding knife is much more effective IMHO. But that cat keychain thing isn’t useless. That’s all I’m saying.

Texas knife rules: https://kniferights.org/hb-1935-bottom-line/ 4.5 inches is enough to be a fighting knife. Does Austin have more restrictive rules?

Perhaps the SHERIFFS’ OFFICES.

They seem to be the only Law enforcement agency that has any credibility.

I can agree with that. I wouldn’t want to get stabbed with it.
