As shootings and homicides continue to skyrocket across the city, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler announced a new emergency declaration on Thursday in an effort to combat the rising crime. . . . .
“Portland will not cure our gun violence problem through law enforcement and prosecutions alone,” Wheeler said. The mayor explained part of the Safer Summer PDX plan includes spending $2.4 million toward community-based violence intervention efforts.
Part of the Safer Summer plan includes outreach efforts to Portlanders most at-risk of being involved in gun violence by “community-based messengers” that are not members of law enforcement, Wheeler explained. “Rather than arrest and prosecute, our goal with this program will be to offer each person at risk of gun violence a meaningful and workable plan tailored to each person’s specific needs to prevent them from getting involved in this in the first place,” Wheeler said.

Whew! Finally someone can put a stop to it! 🤔😅 If you blame the tool, you are a tool!
Lol. Stupid liberal. More shrinks and social workers = more crime, not less.
Who would have thought that legalizing drugs would lead to more violence? Who besides everyone, that is.
People like Wheeler and those who vote for them are well and truly insane. Their ridiculous policies are the reason there is more violence.
In realville “community-based violence intervention efforts” is called Constitutional Carry.
Screw it up...then ask for more $$$ to fix it...the Demo/Commie way
““Portland will not cure our gun violence problem...”
Until politicians and the media actually have the courage to name the group that is disproportionately responsible for the violent crime, the problem will not be solved.
LOL, what could go wrong...

Move out of Portland.
It used to be “Crime with a handgun: 3 to 5 automatic.”
what a bunch of happy crap
up next, confiscation
More money for social programs. Why didn’t we think of this before? Looks like the problem’s solved.
Psycho voters elect psycho people.

That is the only way to address criminals.
It’s a criminal problem.
Arrest, prosecute and incarcerate to keep the rest of us safe.
Amen to that.
They just legalized the wrong drugs. Fentynal for all would cure the problem for good.
To stop the gun violence in Portland:
1. Hang all of the high officials of the city at once.
2. Enact measures where if one starts gun violence and is doing so as part of an illegal act, after trial & conviction one dies by public hanging and the immediate family (whoever resides in-state) of whoever started it will be subject to imprisonment at hard labor for 10 years.
3. If anyone there complains about it, hang them too.
4. If anyone in the immediate family is not in state, do not ever come back. Return would be immediate imprisonment.
5. Really not being sarcastic or kidding.
Move out of Portland.
“Don’t visit Portland.”
A younger friend, now in his 50’s spent about 10+ years in Portland as a young adult. He left 15 years ago because of how the city was becoming ravaged by druggies.
He recently had a mini vacation/job in helping to relocate a personal yacht (not his) to Victoria. The people, who owned the boat told him, they would pay for his flight to stop in Portland on the way home.
He told them no thank you. Getting shot or mugged was not in his life plan.
So, he caught a commercial flight from SeaTac to Sac.., and flew over Portland at a few thousand feet. He didn’t go to nor spend anytime in Sac. with its violence.
