Jan. 6 Hearing Depicts Donald Trump as Content to Let the Riot Rage
Wall Street Journal ^ | July 22, 2022 | Scott Patterson

President Donald Trump spent hours in front of a television at the White House watching the attack on the Capitol unfold on Jan. 6, 2021, ignoring pleas from staff, supporters and family to call off the rioters—and even at times encouraging them—according to testimony Thursday at a prime-time hearing of the House committee investigating the attack.

“The case against Donald Trump, in these hearings, is not made by witnesses who are his political enemies,” said Rep. Liz Cheney (R., Wyo.), the committee’s vice chair, at the close of the hearing, the eighth and last of the current series. “It is instead a series of confessions by Donald Trump’s own appointees, his own friends, his own campaign officials, people who worked for him for years, and his own family.”

In a series of messages on his Truth Social social-media network after the hearing, Mr. Trump challenged the testimony. He called Ms. Cheney, a longtime political foe, a “sanctimonious loser” and said the committee presented “so many lies and misrepresentations.”

In more than two hours of recorded and live testimony, led by Reps. Elaine Luria (D., Va.) and Adam Kinzinger (R., Ill.), the committee portrayed a president sitting idly by, watching the events on television as he contemplated his own fate, while aides, family members and security officials grew increasingly fearful and pleaded for him to take action to quell the violence.

That violence continued for 187 minutes between Mr. Trump’s speech at the Ellipse near the White House and the release of his video message asking protesters to go home.

The committee played a recording of an interview with an unnamed security official working at the White House on Jan. 6 who testified that the Secret Service detail for Mike Pence grew increasingly worried as the attack escalated in the afternoon

Full article. If the President does not act to quell a riot it's because he supports the riot. I will vote for anyone but Trump in the primaries and will sit out the general if he is the nominee.

The DEMs have determined that keeping Trump in the news is a positive for them in the elections. At a minimum, it’s a distraction from the massive voter fraud that has been, by and large, accepted by the American people. No way did Brandon get 81 million legitimate votes in 2020, but he sits in the White House destroying the country.

No need to send the military into the Capitol building to deal with unarmed and largely nondestructive entrants. And Pelosi rejected the troops who were offered to her in advance.

Sham Jan 6 ‘committee’ is only showing their one, fabricated side.

It is an abject embarrassment, to this nation, and, should be dissolved and shatcanned, posthaste.

“That violence continued for 187 minutes between Mr. Trump’s speech at the Ellipse near the White House and the release of his video message asking protesters to go home.”

They leave out that Trump put out two tweets during that time asking the protesters to back off - the first just 23 minutes after the breach of the capital. And the initial breach occurred while Trump was still speaking at the mall. What else could he do? The SS wouldn’t let him go in person to calm down the protesters.

Lies, lies and more lies. Everyone knows Trump was handing out AR15s with instructions to "Go get 'em" pointing to the Capital. Liz Cheney saw the whole thing as well as honest Adam "bug eyed" Schiff.

When will the “Have you no decency?” moment come for Liz and the rest of the gang?

Or is the corruption complete in the D-Rat party?

(FWIW - McCarthy was right, but the symbolism here is the same)

OK so what if he was? Whats illegal about that?

So basically this whole kangaroo court fiasco comes down to nothing more than, “It’s our personal opinion that President Trump could have done more.

Sincerely, the Democrats & Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger

Or, with 20/20 hindsight, people might have handled this with some minor differences. It's safe to say given 100 people, you would have it handled 100 different ways - this is insane.

If your comment is sarcasm, you should say so. If not, you are vastly uninformed of the events of that day and shouldn’t formulate an opinion based on an obvious propaganda ploy.
