Ukraine Tries to Make the Case That It Can Win, Citing Recent Strikes

Just weeks ago, Ukraine’s military was being pummeled relentlessly in the East, taking heavy casualties as it slowly gave ground to the Russian advance. Western support appeared to be softening, amid skepticism that Ukraine could win a war of attrition, or that an influx of sophisticated weapons would turn the tide.

Through it all, the Ukrainians’ message to the world did not change: We can win. Our strategy is working, if slowly. Just keep the weapons coming.

No one can say yet whether Ukraine might prevail against an invading Russian military with superior numbers and weaponry — or even what winning might look like. And Ukraine’s pleas for weapons have become such a constant refrain that some in the West have tuned it out as unrealistic background noise.

Who care if the Ukraine wins or loses?

The US should be having nothing to do with the situation.

It’s ridiculous to pretend Ukraine has a chance of winning without direct NATO intervention, which the Europeans in particular would be against. And even if NATO interceded into this stupid war, it’s outcome would be by no means certain with the additional risk of a nuclear exchange being a possibility. Just throw all of these incompetent and evil neocons out of our government, they screw up everything they touch. Or have people forgotten Afghanistan and Iraq already? Sometimes I wonder what it’s going to take to wake people up.

I like how your graphic notes the fluid borders of Europe. That has been my point this whole time. Europe is doing what Europeans have been doing forever. They redrew their borders many times before us and will continue redrawing them long after us. I see no reason for us to concern ourselves with Europe, we have spent enough American blood over there.

The phrase “The pot calling the kettle black” is an idiom used to claim that a person is guilty of the very thing of which they accuse another.

I thought the Ukies could inflict damage and casualties to make Putin pull back. They have inflicted substantial losses on Russian forces, but clearly Putin does not care. In the old USSR days between 1953 and the end, the GS of CPUSSR answered to the Politburo. This kept the Gen Sec in check. Putin OTOH appears neither constrained or even aware of any checks on his power. There are now, I feel, two choices. One tell Zelensky it’s over and make the best deal possible. Or Two. Fearing a successful Putin has others in his sights, the Baltics, Romania etc, use our military power to smash his forces and threaten nuclear annihilation if he should try to go nuclear. One is the preferred option but Putin may make that impossible.

They’ve already lost big time. To the victor goes the spoilers. In a yer there won’t be a Ukraine - it will all be Russia.
