Ford plans to cut 8,000 jobs to focus on electric vehicles
Washington Examiner ^ | 21 July 2022 | Breanne Deppisch

Ford Motor Co. is planning to cut as many as 8,000 jobs from its internal combustion engine division as it seeks to channel more funding into its electric vehicle division.

The cuts, reported by Bloomberg, follow Ford CEO Jim Farley's previously announced plans to cut $3 billion in company costs by 2026, including through employee layoffs, as well as his efforts to restructure the company radically.

To that end, Farley has separated Ford into two separate units: “Ford Blue,” which focuses on traditional, industrial combustion engine vehicles, as well as the newer “Model E” division that focuses solely on EV offerings.

Though the layoffs have not yet been finalized, they are expected to focus mostly on salaried employees within the Ford Blue division and could begin as early as this summer. The bulk of the cuts is expected to come from the United States, where Ford employs some 31,000 full-time employees.

Also, there’s an opportunity for someone who wants to actually build cars to scoop up the necessary talent.

Yes, I don’t think anyone will argue that point.

The president is not responsible for decisions at Ford Motor Company.

Guarantee there’s a large government subsidy somewhere in this story.

One subsidy already has a name and price tag: the $52 Billion Chips Act. Taxpayer funded chip manufacturing.

The Chinese will destroy our auto industry with cheap EV. They are no longer blocked from selling in the US. Hunter will have another home at the Hamptons.

It’s actually not a generator at all, it’s a battery pack. The caption is wrong.

“I’ve got a 2010 F-350 Diesel Dually....It will last me the rest of my life at my age!!!”

but not really for a kids whooptie HS ride, or Mom’s grocery getter. They drive Honda, Toyota and Subaru.

Ford makes crap and has made crap for decades. And this comes from a Cobra Jet lovin’ guy.

Escort, Tiempo, Fiesta, Explorers, Tbirds, F150 frames that disintigrate, 3 valve v8’s, the list goes on and on.
F150’s are only 50% US made products.

Tesla has a more US made car than most others.
Honda, Toyota and Subaru all make em right here in the USofA.

Ford stock pays .10¢ a quarter, their stock price is shiite and they are laying folks off.

I don’t get the fascination with The Big 3 anymore.
Well, it’s only Big 2 now that Chrysler is Italian.
GM is bankrupt again, and Barra sold out the husk to the ChiComs, look it up.

When Ford goes bellyup with their shabby E crap, they’ll be all done too.

Yea, the lack of an obvious exhaust pipe kinda makes it look like it’s not a generator.

Cutting jobs???? We were told green energy would create millions of jobs.

Funny how things like this happen.

My point was that President Trump and a Republican Congress will change all the Executive Orders and legislation pushing electric cars, and Ford will take the obvious path away from them.

I guess those EVs build themselves.

A lot of the cost and labor is in the batteries. Ford likely outsources the batteries and some of the electronics, making them more a designer/assembler than a true manufacturer, at least for EVs.

Mexico?

Actually, no. I just did some searching.

Surprisingly, they are setting up shop for batteries in a couple of non-Union red states. (TN, KY & TX) That will take a few years to build, though (2025).

In any case. another EV has to come to the rescue of another EV. How's this instead?

Can’t tell either way; why bring a battery to charge a battery? The service battery had to be charged up first (using coal or oil) in order to charge up that car battery to where it could go to some service station for a full charge.

“EVs do not need as many parts nor assemblers...................”

Not sure you could back that up in any meaningful way.
