New York detects case of vaccine-derived polio

According to the state health department, testing done at a state lab and confirmed by the CDC showed that the virus is a vaccine strain Sabin type 2, which indicates that transmission occurred from someone who received an oral polio vaccine.

Different from wild polio, which has been nearly eradicated globally, cases of vaccine-derived poliovirus occur when a live but weakened strain of virus that is included in vaccines spreads between people. Like wild polio, vaccine-derived poliovirus can cause paralysis.

According to the state health department, it is the first case of vaccine-derived polio recorded in the United States since 2013. There has not been a case of wild polio in the U.S. since 1979, according to the CDC.

The U.S. has used only inactivated polio vaccines since 2000.

The New York case was reported less than a month after British health officials announced that routine wastewater surveillance detected the spread of vaccine-derived poliovirus in London.

So sorry for your family’s loss. The Cutter lab fiasco was terrible. There were 57 children paralyzed, and five died. Because they spread the disease after contracting it, an additional 113 people were paralyzed and another five died.

However, at that time thousands died each year in the U.S. from polio. As tragic as the Cutter lab incident was, the polio vaccine saved the lives and prevented the paralysis of multitudes.

My bad, with 90% of posters anti-covid-vax, I made that assumption.

Bottom line is ANY medical procedure has risks, and that includes vaccines. Getting admitted into a hospital is risky. But we accept the risk by looking at benefits/harm ratio.

Even the greatest vaccine ever created, the smallpox vaccine, which got rid of that nasty 30%+ mortality disease from earth did not prevent me from smallpox infection. But the vaccine did its job and I recovered nicely.

No disease is funny, especially smallpox virus which kills 30%+. What is insanely funny is pointing out 0.000001% adversely affected by vaccines.

We remember.

Dammed straight we remember.

My mother recovered from polio. Nobody else in the family got it. Very unusual. I had acquaintances in elementary school who clumped around on braces for years in the aftermath of polio infections. There were summers when all the public swimming pools closed down as they were thought to be vectors for the disease.

We all got the Salk vaccine when it came out, and then the Sabin vaccine years later. Nobody questioned the validity of the treatments. And nobody else we knew ever got polio.

Got the smallpox vaccination too. Almost nobody today recognizes what those little round scars on the arm mean.

I am generally in favor of vaccinations as a result of those experiences. They seem to work well against stable viruses and bacteria. It seems important to avoid having a large number of vaccinations in a short time frame.

Vaccinations do not work well against the flu or other unstable viruses with rapid mutation rates. Other treatments are required.

The mRNA treatment is not a vaccination, it is not effective to prevent COVID-19, and it is not safe.

Tell that to those affected by it.

and for the percentage, that's so far.

You are so uneducated in statistics and risk versus benefits factors, there is no point is any dialogue with you.

Enlighten me. I miss the point of laughing at someone getting polio.

It’s cheaper. It’s easier to give someone a sugar cube than it is to vaccinate them with a syringe. The oral vaccine gives longer lasting protection.

I fully understand and completely agree with the risk/reward equation, its just tragic when you are in the small minority that fall in the “risk” part of that equation. Polio was terrible and the vaccine worked. Neither of those things are nearly the same in the current situation with Covid.

Nothing about the China virus vaccine.

IIRC dispensing the injected, killed vaccine requires refrigeration be available. The oral 'attenuated' vaccine did not. So in the poor remote areas where polio had yet to be eradicated (we had gotten that down to just Afghanistan and adjacent Pakistan) it was feasible to give it in addition to being easier to convince people to take it. Once an area had been polio free long enough, and yet still had high enough vaccination rates the math said kids risk from the live vaccine were higher than the risk of out of area polio being imported to them and causing paralytic polio in spite of the (less effective) injected vaccine. Then, as was done in the US they'd stop with the live vaccine.

Polio SHOULD already be extinct with no one needing either vaccine and no one at risk for paralytic illness from the live vaccine (IIRC the risk is 1/million or maybe 1/ 3 million from it). There is one, and only one, reason polio is not extinct. The fundamentalist Islamics of Afghanistan and Pakistan who not only refused the vaccine givers but in some cases murdered them when just a little more vaccination would have finished the job. Poverty WAS NOT to blame. The even poorer areas of India had already gotten the job done. For any further cases of natural polio or of vaccine induced polio all blame goes not to big pharma, but to bad Alllah.

Your comment is way off from the article but may be spot on even if you are being a PITA.

This was just on the news here in NY.They mentioned the one case but didn’t give much detail. Then an MD came on to talk about the symptoms, just the effect. All he said was that once contracted, it is contagious for the next 30 days and can shed. Not a single clue as to what to look out for. Idiot. All I could think is that they are planning to quarantine us for 30 days.

A perfect example of what anti-vaxxer hysteria can produce.

My stepfather’s first wife and daughter died of polio.

We’d been waiting for the next foot to drop and here it is. It’s all part of the evil plan. The evil doers obviously don’t love their kids and grandkids.

Not from Covid inoculation. From a polio vaccine administered orally
