It seems foolish to me to do this kind of investing with these idiot marxists in charge of every aspect of the bureaucracy. One snap of their finger and they can simply destroy these businesses. When the woke treehuggers discover chip manufacturing is not done with unicorn farts and diversity they will shut them down. And when they see the rare earth mines in Africa, forget it.

Lots of Samsung’s customers have Austin offices, so there’s that. There’s also already a support infrastructure in place in Austin for certain types of tech industries in the form of suppliers, consultants, etc. There are also a few academic tech research labs in Austin.

That said, it’s not like Dallas isn’t getting any tech sector growth (it is), but there’s a couple of DFW historical precedents that ran off a lot of tech development that people in the industry still remember (Texas Instruments playing political games against competitors and the literal bible thumpers in Carrollton running off Apple in the 80s). Worth noting that rural land around DFW costs more than the rural land around Austin on average - also worth noting that a lot of these developments aren’t actually *in* Austin or the directly-in-contact suburbs of Austin either.

As if traffic and the general way of life in the Austin area doesn’t suck enough already.

If it happens it’ll be due to almost $5 bil in bribes.

If that worked, NYS would be an economic powerhouse instead of a wasteland.

Good luck realizing the 10,000 jobs. Those predictions are always grossly over inflated. Good luck filling the positions that do materialize.

“$200 billion investment, 11 new fabs, 10,000 new jobs”

Wonder how many square miles of chips they’ll turn out per year. It’s a new world, folks.

Not me.

He’s using a good template. I’m inclined to let it play out.

It takes a long time to build out infrastructure to support chip-making plants.

It is good to see the factories coming back to North America. Relying on chips from Asia is going to get increasingly dicey in the years ahead.

For the record, is the Tesla Giga factory in the extra-territorial jurisdiction?

It would seem to me that the growth of extra-territorial jurisdiction including Tesla and Samsung will make old Austin obsolete

Tesla Giga factory is not in Austin City limits.

Neither is the Samsung facility planned in Taylor. Taylor is northeast of Austin, past Round Rock area. I would even consider it a rural area. Been out there a few times for daughters softball games many years ago.

“That’s gonna be a boom for little Taylor, TX.”

Yep, that little town is going to grow.

I haven’t been out there is many years. Daughter had some softball tournaments there maybe 10 years ago.

Last time I went through there, it hadn’t changed much since the 90s when my wife taught there. There’s been a little growth, but nothing like the growth Hutto saw when that tollway went through there. This Samsung plant is going to change that.

It’s about frickin’ time. These people put their factories 35 miles from a military machine that wahts to end them...not a good plan.
