Colossal Failure: EV Charging Stations Face Mechanical Problems - Over Half Inoperable in 1 Area
Western Journal ^ | July 18, 2022 | David Zimmermann

If there is one consistent fact about electric vehicles, it’s that they are unreliable. Now their charging stations have come into question as well.

In Aspen and Glenwood Springs, Colorado, many companies have implemented charging stations in their parking lots. All of them are not fully functional, however.

Chris Lane, a Basalt resident who owns two electric cars, highlighted a couple of issues with the local charging stations: Cables are ripped out, attachments are damaged and screens are cracked.

If there is a mechanical problem with any one of these stations, it automatically shuts down, Aspen Daily News reported.

“I charge in Glenwood, I see problems. I charge in Aspen, I see problems,” Lane said. He mentioned one exception: Tesla’s stations.

“I will say this, the Tesla stations are way better, flawless,” he said.

Companies and stores that have EV stations in their parking lots are expected to take care of them, but this has not always been the case.

The Willits Town Center in Basalt, Colorado, is a prime example. With 11 total stations, five were out of order and two were inaccessible, leaving only four functioning chargers available.

“I see mechanical failures up and down the valley,” Lane said.

The scam in Virginia is to stick FARM USE tags on anything that can’t be registered, doesn’t have insurance, or won’t pass an emissions or safety inspection.

It’s become such a problem that the new law will require FARM USE tags to be issued by the DMV and applicants will have to tell the DMV exactly where their farm is and what they grow there.

(I once saw FARM USE tags on a Honda Civic...)

Another scam is, since Virginia requires front plates but the police rarely bother to pull anyone missing the front plate over, to use the front plate on the back of another vehicle.

Screw congested City traffic…though the “one pedal” optional golf cart mode is very useful in start and stop traffic.

Mine is great as a daily use commuter car in the suburbs.

It’s not saving the planet. CO2 is a vital trace gas and we need more of it. it’s saving me money and it’s saving the useable life of my gas cars by doing the short runs that are hard on ICE cars.

And wow is it fun to drive.

So the point is they work just fine right now for the correct application.

Depending on zoning, code, insurance, people may not be able to plug in at home.

Or not easily, at any rate.

We just talked to someone who was looking at an EV and had no idea that she couldn’t plug the thing in at home.

Again you prove my point of it being a niche vehicle and you’re right; it is good for those short runs not too far away. No warm up needed. I’ve heard they can be fun to drive since they are so quick. In moderate climates like SoCal they can be really good since the heater and AC isn’t really needed as much as most the rest of the country. I have plenty of space to park an extra vehicle for something like that and would love to own one for the experience of it but they are cost prohibitive to buy and cost prohibitive to replace the battery packs.

$40-$80K is a little steep for most people to keep a second or third vehicle around for those short runs though and for apartment dwellers with two spots per apartment with 2 or more people living in them; it may be difficult or impossible to find a way to recharge them at home or even find a spot to park them without displacing another vehicle.

I think we can see the writing on the wall. The ugly control freak elites want us to own zero vehicles so we simply call one on our smart phone that tracks our every move when we need one to get somewhere. Can you imagine everyone calling for one in the morning to go to work? Yeah; that’s not gonna work either so they will expect everyone to ride their bicycles to a location every neighborhood to catch an electric bus then catch an electric train to someplace close to work where you use your bicycle again to go the rest of the way to work. On demand car use will be for groceries you don’t have delivered or some such thing.

If you consider a daily commuter vehicle, which I use for 90% of my driving, a “niche” vehicle that’s on you. I consider it my main vehicle.

The thought that people who live in apartments in big cities are a good market for EV’s are on some serious drugs. It’s not workable from so many angles.

Suburban use with at-home charging is where they make sense.

My decision to buy one was primarily financial, and I made my calculations when gas cost half of what it does now.

why is a freedom loving person who would responsibly pay their own way, by charging at home , is using these stations. Sounds like welfare for EVs.

Why do you assume EV recharging stations do not employ a fee for use? Some charge by the KW, others by the minute. Some have paid memberships offering discounted usage fees. Some EV manufacturers build in the recharging costs into the vehicle sticker price.

Some shopping centers offer no-fee charging as a customer enticement. Some employers offer no-fee charging as an employee benefit.

Welfare would be the government rebates for purchasing an EV, favoring union shops.

I’m glad for you that it works for you. It won’t work for most people.

And that’s the way the free market should work. One size does NOT fit all.

EV’s aren’t right for everybody and for every use, just like anything else.

I have a 13 year old ice car with about ~95K miles on the odometer. I've driven it constantly for short trips to work and shopping since I've owned the car. I make occasional road trips a couple of time a month, but the vast majority of my driving is short road trips. I am still on my second battery..

Totally aware of that, and I completely agree.

If someone waved a magic wand and everyone had an EV and only an EV it would be a complete and total fail…of massive proportions.

That does not change my reality of today.

What’s more, if there was a butt kicking contest for the liberal idiots that want to force people into buying one I’d be at the front of the line with my steel toed boots.

That’s great for you, and you must live in a very temperate climate. Folks that live in AZ have to change their battery every year or two; they get baked in the heat. In PA where I live there are other problems, including 4 seasons.

But your own individual experience or not, short drives are hardest on gas cars.

None of my gas cars have less than 60K miles on them and I want to keep them around for as long as possible. The youngest one is probably 10 years old.

I live in central Illinois. My battery is going on 8 years. I wanted to buy a new one a couple of years ago. Service techs said it was still good so I took their advice. That said, batteries are relatively cheap to replace except for maybe luxury car OEM batteries.

Good analogy and summation of Democratic ideas and the programs passed to implement them.

Hey, how does the customer get charged for the power that is used when they plug their EVs into the charging station? Is the power free? Or is it billed to the customers credit card?

Real drivers are damaging them, maybe? In retaliation for EV people’s hating on our REAL cars and trying to ban them?

Then it goes through THEIR electric meter.

Probably cheaper...the charging station company has to add a profit, after all.

But this administration HATES ALL ENERGY options that make sense and are economical.

Energy = mobility.
Mobility = freedom.

That's what they hate.
