“Systemic failures” in Uvalde shooting went far beyond local police, Texas House report details
Texas Tribune ^ | July 17, 2022 | Zach Despart

The 18-year-old who massacred 19 students and two teachers in Uvalde on May 24 had no experience with firearms before his rampage began. He targeted an elementary school with an active shooter policy that had been deemed adequate but also a long history of doors propped open.

No one was able to stop the gunman from carrying out the deadliest school shooting in Texas history, in part because of “systemic failures and egregious poor decision making” by nearly everyone involved who was in a position of power, a new investigation into the shooting has found.

On Sunday, a Texas House committee is releasing the most exhaustive account yet of the shooter, his planning, his attack and the fumbling response he provoked.

The 77-page report, reviewed provides a damning portrayal of a family unable to recognize warning signs, a school district that had strayed from strict adherence to its safety plan and a police response that disregarded its own active-shooter training.

It explains how the gunman, who investigators believe had never fired a gun before May 24, was able to stockpile military-style rifles, accessories and ammunition without arousing suspicion from authorities, enter a supposedly secure school unimpeded and indiscriminately kill children and adults.

In total, 376 law enforcement officers descended upon the school in a chaotic, uncoordinated scene that lasted for more than an hour. The group was devoid of clear leadership, basic communications and sufficient urgency to take down the gunman, the report says.

Notably, the investigation is the first so far to criticize the inaction of state and federal law enforcement, while other reports and public accounts by officials have placed the blame squarely on Uvalde school police Chief Pete Arredondo, for his role as incident commander, and other local police who were among the first to arrive.

It was a clusterf### from the beginning. Officers arrived on the scene as soon as 5 minutes after the shooter did, yet reported the shooter “contained” while he was still murdering children. Many children died of blood loss that could have been saved had the shooter been taken out quickly.

Systemic Failures is just run around BS. How many mass shootings does the commie left have to orchestrate before you hand them your guns?

If there were no police at all, a private citizen would probably have saved most of the children.

“No one was able to stop the gunman”

It had nothing to do with a lack of ability. The BP agent proved that.

To WHAT end? Is some one going to be held responsible? No? So, again, to WHAT end?

The group was devoid of...sufficient urgency...“They failed to prioritize saving the lives of innocent victims over their own safety,”

This is just appalling.

"The 18-year-old... had no experience with firearms before his rampage began."

One wonders if he had any help, instruction, or encouragement from someone(s) who had more experience with firearms.

When there is obviously a specific and identifiable politically connected villain involved (the cops in this case), always obfuscate by blaming, “systemic failures and egregious poor decision making.”

It’s telling that the tragic events when government authorities at all levels fail most egregiously, such as at Parkland and Uvalde, are the ones the Democrats hang their hats on as the most clear proof and the most compelling evidence that citizens need to have their rights stripped away the most urgently. Because these are actually the cases which make the strongest case that governments can’t, don’t, and won’t protect you, which is why, if you want to be protected at all, you need the best protection you can possibly get for yourself. The opposite of “gun control”.

"One wonders if he had any help, instruction, or encouragement from someone(s) who had more experience with firearms."

In one of the early stories reported, it was said that he had an uncle that "took him shooting". So he wasn't a total firearms virgin...

376 law enforcement officers descended upon the school and yet NOT ONE was able to find the BALLS to take out ONE mentally disturbed fruit loop. Disgraceful!

So much for all their training, bad-ass looking body armor, etc. POSERS THE ENTIRE LOT!

That police force must have been a jobs patronage program for officers who were connected to the right people.

NEGATIVE…..ZACH DESPART

I don’t care what that kid did leading up to that day. He could have been stopped before he went into that school.

And the cops could have done their jobs and gone in after him.

One of the thing s they reach you in active shooter training is to co front the shooter, so they train their attention on you. They can’t do two things at once, ie…. shoot innocent, defenseless people or confront what is a threat to them-the cops.

If they don’t pay attention to the cops then they should be shot repeatedly, reload, and shot some more. In other words….

Sheriff Grady Judd….. “I suspect the only reason 110 rounds was all that was fired was that’s all the ammunition they had.”

What failed that day was the cowards in uniform, nothing more.

There was no failure restraining parents that were going to go in to save their kids. Plenty of training in that area.

It was a failure of leadership. No one wanted to be the guy in charge.
