China-Australia relations are facing both challenges and opportunities at the present, and China is willing to "recalibrate" ties in the spirit of mutual respect, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
"The Chinese side is willing to take the pulse (on ties), recalibrate, and set sail again," Wang told Chinese media in the Guangxi region on Thursday (July 14), according to a foreign ministry statement on Friday.

Time-honored tactic: Drive a wedge between allies. In this instance, China is trying to drive a wedge between Australia and the US, Japan, UK.

Over 90% of Aussies live along the Pacific rim within 100 miles of the coast. China has long had a covetous expansionist eye on the thousands of vacant miles to the west. They’re just biding their time waiting for an opportunity to gain a foothold in the region.
The vast majority of Australia is barely inhabited.
Same style of government now.
And barely inhabitable.

They would have to go through Indonesia, and the Red Chinese are not a naval power (despite their pretensions otherwise).
The ancient 5 Eyes intel sharing system, is probably not really a valuable group with America and the UK for the Aussies.
A new group with Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, India and Vietnam might be a better fit.
And here we see somebody who has swallowed the Chinese propaganda and is repeating it...
that must be another rung in China's vast "anti-globalist" agenda we hear so much about around here.
