Joe Manchin’s decision to kill off sweeping US climate legislation has been called “nothing short of a death sentence” for younger people and a livable climate on Earth, amid an outpouring of anger and despair from activists, scientists and even many of the US Senator’s Democratic colleagues.
Manchin, the centrist West Virginia senator who has become a millionaire through his founding of a coal-trading company in his home state, dealt a crushing political blow to Joe Biden’s agenda on Thursday night when he made clear he would not support any spending to curb the climate crisis in a proposed bill.
The loss of Manchin’s swing vote in an evenly-divided US senate means it’s now probable America will remain without legislation to cut planet-heating emissions for several more years, imperiling national and international climate goals and further escalating deadly wildfires, droughts, floods and heatwaves around the world.
“Given the US’s role as the leading all-time carbon polluter, it is difficult to see global action on climate without US leadership,” said Michael Mann, a climate scientist at Penn State University, who called Manchin “a modern-day villain, who drives a Maserati, lives on a yacht, courtesy of the coal industry, and is willing to see the world burn as long as it benefits his near-term investment portfolio”.

Considering that anthropogenic global warming is just a massive fraud, Manchin is a hero not a villain.
Many *want* to be controlled. To them, government is god on earth. If something is *not* controlled by government edict, horrible things will happen.

The “climate” I’m concerned about is the mass appeal of Marxism and wokery.
He voted for their damnable gun bill, but so did Sinema and a bunch of traitor Republicans. But this one is big too.
The MSM really should have gone back and tried to pass that fifth grade science class they failed - which made them choose between journalism or education majors.
Manchin has a lot more spine than most Republicrats.
How can climate change being a death sentence for younger people not make your eyes roll so hard they sprain?
Younger people have a lot more to fear from manufactured viruses and mass experimental vaccinations than they do from warming and cooling cycles and gradual (eons) movement of coastlines.
It’s been lurking in the West for over a hundred years. Always ready to pounce as soon as people turn from God. Ultimately Marxists are extreme fundamentalists and adhere to Marxism like the Taliban adhere to their religion. The same dynamic at play, just a different wrapper.
So democrats have a decision to make, do they really want to browbeat Manchin into votes that will result in him being replaced by a conservative Republican in 2024 or would they rather Manchin be with them 60% of time and put up with him killing most of the more radical proposals, but still hold onto the Senate seat.
