Democrats Are Having a Purity-Test Problem at Exactly the Wrong Time (schaudenfreud alert)

There has been a burst of stories in recent weeks describing devastating internal conflicts within progressive organizations, the most conspicuous of which was Ryan Grim’s June 13 Intercept piece, “Elephant in the Zoom: Meltdowns Have Brought Progressive Advocacy Groups to a Standstill at a Critical Moment in World History.”

Grim’s assessment resonated across the internet and was quickly followed by ...Jon Gabriel’s article in the Arizona Republic on June 18, “Who needs a right-wing plot when progressives are busy eating themselves alive?”...and John Harris’s June 23 Politico essay, “The Left Goes to War with Itself.”

These divisions reflect larger divisions within the Democratic Party coalition, between an older (and whiter) generation that learned what works in an earlier time, has nostalgia for that earlier time, and is thus more reluctant to give up on the existing status quo (especially because that means relinquishing power to a younger generation they do not trust), and a younger (and more diverse) generation that has no attachment to and little affinity for the past, and a real sense of urgency about the need for major, transformative change across a wide range of issues. Within the Democratic Party coalition, many of the leaders are refusing to pass the torch (look at the leadership of the party), and a younger generation is impatient with the slow pace of change and eager for their turn.

Steven Pinker, a professor of psychology at Harvard, contends that internecine conflict on the left has become “a profound issue, particularly for those of us who are terrified that the hard woke left will enable the resurgence of authoritarian populism by inflicting damage on the moderate left and center and by driving voters to the right."

This is rich...the woke mob that works in not-for-profits is attacking their own employer and management - “the presence in every progressive organization of a small but very vocal fringe that views every problem as a sin.” The young new hires "were acutely sensitive to what they saw as microaggressions, including the use of terms to identify different groups that they regarded as out of date and insulting. They were prickly, quick to take offense and to see malign motives rather than inadvertent mistakes."

This is rich. That older generation played the young like fiddles for years with tales of imminent armageddon due to climate change and nazis everywhere, laughing at how gullible they were and how easily manipulated into slavishly voting for them. Now they realize that the fools actually believe it and want to destroy the world in order to save it. But that's not the bad part from the old guard's perspective. The bad part is that to do it they want to kick the older guys to the curb and take all their power.

And as Conservative front line soldiers we should be fomenting descent between them every chance we get, always point out and always get one to apply an unattainable and unacceptable standard to the other, and then mock them or enrage them when they dont. Always keep them gnashing their teeth with each other. Then buy some popcorn with EXTRA butter and sit back and snicker.

To me the critical thing is breaking off pieces of their coalition. They have people voting for them who in no way, shape or form agree with their quasi religious dogma.

Hispanics are largely churchgoing, family oriented, patriotic and hard working. They have an old school macho culture and what we would now call “defined gender roles”. ie, girls should be girls and boys should be boys. What on earth are they doing voting for Democrats who believe in none of those things?

A lot of Blacks are similar. Hell, 25% of Blacks self identify as Conservatives. What in the world are they doing voting Democrat?

In addition for Hispanics and Blacks many of whom are middle or working class: does it benefit you or hurt you to flood the country with cheap labor? Does it benefit you or hurt you to systematically drive up the cost of fuel? Are you with Martin Luther King Jr in believing people should be judged by the content of their character or do you believe in segregation and overt racial discrimination? Are you OK with transgender theory/gender identity being taught in the schools to your kids under 10 years old?

Asians....they call you “White adjacent” (which they mean as an insult) because you believe in getting a real education, family values and hard work. Then they discriminate against your kids because they study hard and do well in school. ummm.....why are you voting for these people? They plainly hate you and hold none of your values.

The Democrats are the party of elitist White suburban Karens. There’s nothing in it for anybody else in voting for them.

Bottom line, just like RINOs aren't like Deplorables, the white Karen's aren't like the Democrstic Mainstays.
