Hi, Kathy. "The Blizzard" with the pony Dan. It's the story of the first person singer almost making it home to Mary Ann in the blizzard, but Dan, his lame pony, are struggling to make it. Seven miles to the warm cabin and dinner; five miles; three more miles to Mary Ann...Both the pony and narrator die in the blizzard only 100 yards from the barn. It's a great story of devotion of a man to his trusted animal partner. One of my favorites. "Get up, you ornery cuss...you'll be the death of us."

"He was just 100 yards from Mary Ann" and the warm cabin when they lay down and died. He just couldn't leave old Dan.

The Blizzard - by Johnny Cash

The Blizzard - by Camera Obscura (this is a great arrangement)

...and, of course...

The Blizzard - by Jim Reeves

blue eyed merle dog

The merle gene modifies the dark pigment in the eyes, occasionally changing dark eyes to blue, or part of the eye to be colored blue. Since merle causes random modifications, however, both dark-eyed, blue-eyed, and odd-colored eyes are possible. Pigmentation on paw pads and nose may be mottled by pink.

I can’t pick just one so I’ll second Cat in the Window, White Bird, and What’s New Pussycat. A couple honorable mentions for Elusive Butterfly and Alley Cat.

The Whole House
Read: Acts 16:22–34

Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household. Acts 16:31

Wearing his striped jumpsuit, James walked across the steamy jail gym and climbed into the portable pool where he was baptized by the prison chaplain. James’ joy multiplied, however, when he heard that his daughter Brittany—also an inmate—had been baptized that same day . . . in the same water! When they realized what had happened, even the staff got emotional. “There wasn’t a dry eye,” the chaplain said. In and out of jail for years, Brittany and her dad both wanted God’s forgiveness. And together, God gave them new life.

Scripture describes another prison encounter—this time with a jailer—where Jesus’ love transformed an entire family. After a “violent earthquake” shook the prison and “the prison doors flew open,” Paul and Silas didn’t run but remained in their cell (Acts 16:26–28). The jailer, overcome with gratitude that they didn’t flee, took them to his house and eventually asked that life-changing question: “What must I do to be saved?” (v. 30)

“Believe in the Lord Jesus,” they answered, “you and your household” (v. 31). The response reveals God’s desire to pour out mercy on not only individuals but also entire families. Encountering God’s love, they all came “to believe in God—[the jailer] and his whole household” (v. 34). Though we’re often eager for the salvation of those we love, we can trust that God loves them even more than we do. He desires to renew all of us, our whole house.Winn Collier

What difference does it make to consider how God reaches out to whole families? How can you trust God’s mercy for your family?

Dear God, please reveal Yourself to my whole family.

Too bad Dan couldn't survive the blizzard. Previously, he hadsaved his rider from death by dehydration and then got him and his herd out of the Dust Bowl.
