Hi, Kathy. "The Blizzard" with the pony Dan. It's the story of the first person singer almost making it home to Mary Ann in the blizzard, but Dan, his lame pony, are struggling to make it. Seven miles to the warm cabin and dinner; five miles; three more miles to Mary Ann...Both the pony and narrator die in the blizzard only 100 yards from the barn. It's a great story of devotion of a man to his trusted animal partner. One of my favorites. "Get up, you ornery cuss...you'll be the death of us."
"He was just 100 yards from Mary Ann" and the warm cabin when they lay down and died. He just couldn't leave old Dan.

...and, of course...

Too bad Dan couldn't survive the blizzard. Previously, he hadsaved his rider from death by dehydration and then got him and his herd out of the Dust Bowl.
