Maybe they’ll dump some regulations and hire individuals like this one to be pilots.

I’m an airline pilot and while there a smidgen of truth in this it doesn’t touch on the real reason for the pilot shortage. Decades of airlines cutting wages, pensions, and decreasing quality of life combines with high training costs are the real reason. Whenever you see an article about pilots it usually mentions high salaries earned by a small fraction of them who are flying wide body international airplanes. It doesn’t mention the regional FO that spent $200,000 in training costs after finishing college who earns $20,000 a year and has to share an apartment with five other people to be able to afford rent. There are far more of them than the wide body captains making $400,000 a year.

Those numbers have changed a little recently but until the shortage hit that was the norm for decades. Not a whole lot of people are now clamoring for a job requiring a college degree and $200,000 debt that would have them 30 years old, living in a crash pad and earning less than a McDonald’s worker. The airlines loved it when the market was in their favor though. Now they’re crying a river and the gullible are buying it.

You open your thread with a real observation.

“...states reward thieves by not going after them anymore...

But the major thing is this: If you find a person with a way to get something done faster, better, cheaper, and with a future in mind, do you fire him?

https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/trump-administration-accomplishments/

This is what lies does to those that make them and don’t play the game... And I saw another thread coming from a blatant liberal source that has to be considered socialist. They say that Trump is one of the few presidents that had more jobs open than people to fill them when he left is wrong. If jobs declined at a rate that no one could get them might be what they were implying. The dishonest comes in when they fail to mention that that was not the truth. During the Trump administration, he made moves that allowed the private sector to create jobs faster than the people could fill them.

The first five entries on the site I gave you display that.

And so they conned the public into firing Trump and brought in a guy who has made every effort to destroy the US?

Profound discovery for the Biden administration especially in 2024:

“Sometimes I need what only you can provide: your absence.” Ashleigh Brilliant

“Many pilots received their training during the Vietnam war...”

Uh, no. You must be younger than 65 years of age to fly according to Part 121 (Federal Aviation Regulations). If most are military trained and they graduated college at age 22, the oldest (age 64) would have begun flight training in 1980.

I would add that I grew up at a time when hardly anyone flew other than business travelers and wealthy vacationers. Over the last 40 years the airline industry has become little more than flying Greyhound buses. They could solve a lot of these problems by simply pricing the service appropriately and dropping a large number of their flights.

This regulation even required an additional 750 hours for pilots who received military training.

Also I just caught this. This is completely incorrect, the regulations reduced the required flight time for military trained pilots. It did not increase it as the article says.

Mr. Lott has published a lot of well researched articles about gun control, but he dropped the ball on this. Most of this article is just flat out inaccurate.

Depressing that most of this article is false.

Vietnam era pilots have been gone forever. COVID vaccination have almost zero effect on this issue.

The military stopped training pilots when the Berlin Wall fell in 1989 and they increased obligation times and benefits to keep the ones they had.

Flight hour restrictions, although they changed didn’t lower the amount of time pilots fly in a year.

The 1500 hour min is a factor.

The Air Traffic control system is the number one factor by far!!!!

For that you can thank Gay Pete.

My younger son was hired to be an ATP by a regional aitline when he was 21½. He got all of his ratings on birthdays when he was first eligible. He moved up to flying jets in less than two years with a regional; a few years later, he became a check airman, the was hired by Delta not too many years after that flying RJ-70-90s. Has been with the Big Delta for quite a few years now. He was later upgraded to being a First Officer flying A-330s to the Far East and Europee. He’s currently a Captain flying A-220s, mostly on the west coast. He’s 45 and living the dream. He’s been an airline pilot for almost 24 years.

Has another 20 years before he has to retire from Delta. By that time, the mandatory retirement age may be pushed up to 70.

See my post #30. My major airline pilot had zero debt when he was hired to be a regional al airline pilot. He got his CFI on his birthday at the earliest age possible, started teaching to earn money towards his other certifications, got a job with a regional airline handling baggage in order to get connections with airline, and was hired as a first officer six months later.

Embers Riddle is a rip off. They convince kids that they need a degree from them to have a chance to become an airline pilot. There are now some airlines training pilots for their companies.

No. His airline has been very flexible in granting exemptions. Badically, the CEO agreed the mandates were bullshit and acted accordingly. He did volunteer to take time off with being paid for a minimum number of hours at the beginning of the pandemic because of the PPP.

The CEO of his airline decided that there were many pilots who refused the vaccinations, he realized forcing the issue would be a financial disaster.

I mentioned the chinese virus mandates causing the shortage of pilots and airport employess at a Yahoo news article about the pilot shortage and their bots all attacked me saying I did not know anything. I guess most of the other comments pointing out the samething must have had the bots busy.

it is a battle between good and evil- there is no doubt abotu it now-

Everything the left stand for contributes to the destruction of something- Destruction of science by demanding that we all accept that men can be women, destruction of unborn babies, Destroying children’s youth by confusing the snot out of them, and foisting sexual deviancy on them through indoctrination and grooming- destruction of elderly people (with assisted suicide) destruction of our nation with open borders- it’s just one thing after another- and they glory in it whenever they get one of their destructive people elected in powerful positions-

Trump was all about building- the left are all about tearing down so that the majority of folks are o n the public dole and enslaved forever (once they go on it, they will fight like the dickens to stay on it)

They destroyed our oil independence, our lowered prices on everything, even lower prices on medicines- Trump worked hard to get those down too=- and the left came in and immediately increased the prices again-

Good vs Evil, and it’s no joke- the left are full out destructive, and apparently want us all living like stone age people again, while they themselves, the elites, rule from ivory towers

“Good vs Evil...”

And that’s the root of the problem. And the only way to combat it is to consider everything established has loopholes and the evil is going to use them every, every, time.

For instance, I don’t have to consider the problems with the last election as they are now right in front of our eyes. In the 2020, in Washington State, boxes containing votes were found on the side of the road, we were told were lost during transport from the drop boxes. They said they were put back in the system. I say they could have been created and then slipped into the system. I consider everything politicians do to be dishonest...any of them.

When I left the military, a number of people asked me if I would consider running for office. My comment was twofold, first that I was tired of openly playing politics from the military and that I liked myself better than that and didn’t want to be forced to harm someone else by stepping back into it.

There is no honest way to combat pure evil except kill it before it kills you. And the only thing it will consider is that it is going to die if it doesn’t win and doesn’t seem to care either way. So it will do anything to continue to harm until it is erased. Good luck on that one. We’re out manned. Even by those that ride the horse next to us.

Don’t blame you one bit, and great point about liking yourself better than to run. It would be hell having to deal with the evil on the left every day. They attack, and then hide behind their Interpretation of the law which allows them to ignore the actual laws, while oppressing the opposition with blessings from everyone, courts, judges the msm etc- they all enable the left to get away with their evil
