Portland Police say property crimes on the rise

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Police say property crime rates jumped nine percent in 2021. Now, business owners tell KATU they feel like things are only getting worse.

Paige Ashcroft owns Fate Beauty Society. She said in the last year she's experienced vandalism, a stolen car, siphoned gas, and vehicle break-ins.

"We’re just experiencing so much chaos within my husband’s office is downtown, I have this space here and then in our home, we’re feeling like we’re always having to defend ourselves against some sort of crime or robbery," Ashcroft said.

Wyatt Savage opened his first business in Portland's Old Town. Frustrated with crime rates there, he moved to a new space on Southwest Yamhill in May.

Since then, Savage said he's reported two break-ins.

"The assumption that property crimes are a victimless crime is it’s just wrong. It’s just wrong. I don’t make any more money than anyone else. My car is a 2007. I’m not a wealthy businessman," he said.

PPB said reported property crimes are up 11 percent above the five-year average, and the increase is primarily driven by spiking car thefts and vandalism.

No cops on the streets. Socialists in charge. What could possibly go wrong?

That’s what you get when there are too many police and not enough taxes.

Legalizing drugs, defunding the police, etc. has consequences.

I guess that's what Portland cops are still able to do - report crime trends.

And then watch, passively.

Portland citizens brought this on themselves......and we’re doing likewise by the unhindered invasion of our borders.

On the bright side, at least entire sections of the city aren’t being occupied by gangs of lawless thugs “protesting” over BLM anymore.

That’s some sentence.

When the local Starbucks pulls out - that signals trouble:

"...the coffee giant is closing six stores in its hometown of Seattle, two in Portland...company officials said, that it is closing stores permanently where "safety ... is no longer possible."

Those who voted for this should be forced to stay there - instead they'll move out and take their voting habits with them.
