Eight contenders will be on the ballot paper when Conservative MPs in the UK begin voting on Wednesday to elect a successor to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the chairman of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady, has announced.
Johnson was forced to step down after dozens of members of government resigned in protest after a series of scandals.
Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss, Tom Tugendhat, Kemi Badenoch, Penny Mordaunt, Jeremy Hunt, Nadhim Zahawi and Suella Braverman all secured the 20 nominations from fellow members of parliament needed to enter the contest.

A vote of the Parliamentary Party will choose the top two, which will go to a vote of all party members.
Any actual conservatives among the Elite 8?
If so, do any of them have a prayer of making the final cut?
Perhaps it’s just the lingering stench of Boris Johnson making the entire party look like squishes, but it seems like the true conservatives are now in the UKIP (?).
$50 bucks on box 6.
Rees-Mogg endorsed Liz Truss
How would you know? A conservative in the UK is not a conservative in the U.S.

Whilst you were distracted by Boris resigning, the UK Gov. quietly published a report confirming that the vaccinated population as a whole accounted for a shocking 94% of all Covid-19 deaths in April and May 2022 with the unvaccinated accounting for just 6% of all Covid-19 deaths

But are any of the eight conservatives conservative?
Define 'actual conservative'.
I wouldn’t know. Have a hard enough time keep track of our own politicians.
How many real conservatives? Badenoch?
I know very little about the inside baseball part of UK politics but I can hazzard a guess. Based on the photos I can see that the Conservatives seem to be emphasizing optics. Lots of women, women of color, I'd wager some gays. And if that is their priority then no, I'd guess that actually being conservative isn't high on their selection criteria.
Hard to do, I agree. Especially since if you ask 10 people to define 'conservative' you will get 12 definitions.
I meant to say, our lying politicians.

That is indeed how it appears. The Tories seem to have a Rooney Rule (a la the NFL) for their party leadership, which is a huge red flag right there, and even more so if they actually pick a liberal as leader simply because “politically correct gender and or skin color”.
I realize that “Conservative” in the UK is just a party name and doesn’t necessarily reflect any principles or ideology aside from “mostly not quite as nutzoid leftist as Labour”.
We can’t criticize them too much for hypocrisy, not as long as “Republican” in the U.S. so often means “maybe we won’t raise your taxes as much as Democrats would, but ‘social issues’ scare the hell out of us”.
US-style conservative.
Then the answer would be none of them are.
Why box 6?
