The speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament threatened Wednesday to “claim back” Alaska if the United States froze or seized Russian assets as punishment for its invasion of Ukraine.
“Let America always remember: there’s a piece of territory, Alaska,” Vyacheslav Volodin said at the last session of parliament, the State Duma, before it goes on summer break.
“When they try to manage our resources abroad, let them think before they act that we, too, have something to take back,” Volodin said.
He noted that deputy speaker Pyotr Tolstoy had proposed holding a referendum among Alaskans to join Russia.

missing in context is that map some govt groups have been using showing russia broken up into 5-9 states.
we are threatening russia quite explicitly, so it seems childish to act surprised or offended when they do the same.
Lawfully sold by the ruling Sovereign over all Russia at the time.
Given the choice...Russia might no be a bad outcome.
What’s childish is ignoring the Russian imperial mindset. They aren’t kidding about wanting Alaska back - I had Soviet officers tell me that “Alaska belongs to them” in 1991.
I told them to blow it out their butts - we bought it, we own it - but they were serious in their screwy Russian way.
If they’re crazy enough to invade Ukraine, they’re crazy enough to try to seize Alaska.

Russian leaders can fantasize all they want. However if they were serious leaders they will have to come to terms with the fact that their Ukraine debacle demonstrated to the world that their conventional military is not the juggernaut that was once so feared and respected. Retake Alaska? They ought to be more worried about losing Siberia and their Far Eastern Pacific underpopulated rich territories to China. Without nuclear weapons,Russia would be much smaller.

This is ridiculous. We bought Alaska fair and square. If there’s any Russian incursion into AK, they should be dealt with harshly.
I'd much rather Vladimir Putin be my President than Joe Biden. It makes a Alaska a lot more appealing place to be.
Well, they better do it soon while the idiot is in office. He has more important things to do like taking showers and eating ice cream.
I mean, if Alaska keeps voting for Murkowski, this might not be the worst solution... :P
