A bill currently in the works in the North Carolina legislature would allocate $50,000 to get rid of free public EV chargers unless free gas pumps are built alongside.
Politicians have to run on some kind of platform, and Ben Moss—my incoming state House representative here in North Carolina's District 52—decided that his animating principle is Being Mad at Electricity. To prove his animosity toward this invisible menace, he's sponsoring House Bill 1049, which would allocate $50,000 to destroy free public car chargers. It contains some other enlightened ideas, but that's the main theme: We've simply got to do something about these free public chargers, even if it costs us $50,000! Those things cost tens of cents per hour, when they're being used.
Of course, there's a caveat here. Moss isn't saying that free public Level 2 chargers—of which there are three in my town, with plans in the works to convert to paid kiosks—definitely need to get crushed by a monster truck. That rule only comes into play if a town refuses to build free gas and diesel pumps next to the EV chargers. So anyway... {SNIP}

Guess there’s no incentive for gas stations to put in some EV chargers.
Taxpayer dollars should not be used to electric vehicles, their charging, maintenance or disposal. It’s just another redistribution of wealth from hard working Americans to friends of Democrats and China.
They have good barbecue too
Southrons do not like being told what to do/ There have a rebel spirit when faced with a loss of rights. These free stations will go pay really fast. Its like the pusher giving out free drugs to get people hooked—then the price goes up.
“Guess there’s no incentive for gas stations to put in some EV chargers.”
More incentive now.
As if the guy is just mad about "electricity" as opposed to free charges on government subsidized EV's.
Car and Driver should change their name to Government and Robot.
They never should have placed them to begin with. A horrible waste of tax dollars.
Except for their bathroom mess.
It’s good to see that Mother Dyer’s child Ezra is able to make it in the world, despite his congenital brain damage.
Use the money to put a bounty on them.

I gave up my subscription to Car and Driver at least 20 years ago, when one of their writers (can’t recall his name, but his photo had him holding a big white dog) just had to put a few lib comments into every piece he wrote.
Typical charging time for a Level 2 EV charger is around 3-8 hours to full. Does North Carolina have a prohibition against loitering for the purpose of prostitution? If so the hookers should hang out by the EV charger. Their defense is they were getting charged
I do to. Lived there for 30 years. Best fishing and hunting anywhere. Only problem.......shit head liberals from the Northeast moved there and have nearly ruined it. Raleigh Durham Chapel Hill blah.
There will come a time when EV owners will have to pay for their electric “fuel”. And when that day comes the price per mile will be on par with what an ICE vehicle fuel costs per mile.
Only problem.......shit head liberals from the Northeast moved there and have nearly ruined it. Raleigh Durham Chapel Hill blah.Same dog bit us in California decades ago. Soon to be Texas and Florida.

Good post.
The “miles driven” tax they will impose is going to be high.
Every EV is equipped to register miles driven and can be read remotely, from what I’ve read..

Guess there’s no incentive for gas stations to put in some EV chargers. That wouldn't even make sense for a restaurant. Why would any business dependent on volume want their property crowded with cars with dead or dying batteries that take hours to charge?
Gas station sushi while you wait. Maybe to make it fun they could offer free beer for the first 2hrs of charge time.
I know C&D is hardly a conservative platform, but the story behind the article will make people sit up and think.
