DALLAS - Dallas County DA John Creuzot expects more than 1,000 people will sign up to have their criminal records cleared and a chance in some cases to begin again.
The DA announced Tuesday that the county will host an expunction expo again this year.
It's the sixth expunction expo that's helped more than 1,700 people since it began in 2017.
Last year, nearly 700 people had criminal records partially or completely cleared.

For a moment I thought about the sting cops pull on wanted perps by sending them a “Congratulations, you’ve won an all expenses paid 3 night/2 day trip for two to Las Vegas” letter. We will be awarding the prizes at 7:00pm at the Hilton Inn Conference Center. Please bring this letter for admittance.
They show up to claim their prize and get arrested.
OH GREAT and how many of them will now pass background checks for firearms?? You just can’t make this stuff up!! Soros NEEDS to leave this earth why in the hell is this bastard still alive???
You can only ‘expunge’ misdemeanors that don’t mess with gun rights anyway. Most of the people probably weren’t even convicted, just clearing their arrests. IMO these things should automatically, especially the non-convictions, should just go away.
Texas is a hellhole though
Any time I hear of records being expunged, I think “weed.” Sign of the times.
That’s possible indeed. Good point. I still think one or 2 times shouldn’t disqualify you, but after that if convicted you shouldn’t be able to get away with lying on a 4473 over being drug dependent no matter how long it’s been.
Dependence is temporary. And the laws are in such a state of flux that I don’t see any way to make a previous conviction for weed a reason for a permanent end to firearms rights.
Smells like it.
Those records are important to make others safe, and to help
employers to protect their investments.
I had a record for a long long time, close to 50 years.
It was finally expunged about three years ago. I did not
petition for it. I never would have. In fact, the county
sent me paper-work to apply, and I tossed it.
Then the expunged my record anyway.
I screwed up, and I carried the weight. DON’T SCREW UP!
It’s like pregnancy. Once you’re pregnant, it’s too late
to take preventative action. Won’t whine.
I was honest with my employers and they trusted me.
if convicted you shouldn’t be able to get away with lying on a 4473 over being drug dependent no matter how long it’s been.

Alcohol is a drug and I’m a recovering alcoholic. Sober, by the grace of God, 41 years today. July 7 1981- July 7, 2022.
Congrats...
Nice work.
Watch “Sea of Love” with Al Pacino and John Goodman. Great scene similar to what you describe.
I was in Law Enforcement for 33 years dealt with a lot bad guys.
But if some one really turned their life around,
Does it make sense to know they were charged with a minor offense.
10-20-30 years ago.
That is where we are at.
A click of a couple of computer buttons and bingo your history is there.
A graduated scale for expungement works for me.
This should help those arrested n not convicted to clear their record.
Ex-cop ex-son.in.law pressed charges against my daughter for slapping him when he tried to block her leaving his parents house with the kids. (Normal pickup after work)
She was arrested n spent most of a day in jail.
Thank God she had an atty who showed how the “system” was used to punish her for leaving a very dysfunctional family.
Good for you.
MEANWHILE-—George Floyd was a lifetime problem, and good men are in jail for trying to deal with him & his fentanyl ingestion.
The DA is a POS, but this is not nearly as bad as it sounds. The expunction is available for cases such as someone being arrested without being charged, charges dropped, etc.
