Trump needs to pardon him in March of ‘25.’
If he is in federal prison at that time, he would be sent back to Minnesota to complete his state sentence.
Not quite sure Chauvin would be all that happy to leave the confines of a federal facility and brought straight to a state prison.
It is my hope that someday the supreme court stops this nonsense of trying someone for the same crime at the state and federal levels.
It is CLEARLY not right.
Two sovereigns. The same act is a separate offense against the state and the federal sovereigns. I'm not saying that I agree with the doctrine, but this is how you can search for the Supreme Court rulings on these laws.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is about to swap solitary confinement at Minnesota’s only maximum security prison for an unknown future at a federal prison.
Experts say that despite Chauvin’s national notoriety for killing George Floyd, he probably will be safer at whatever federal prison he’s placed, and might have a bit more freedom there.
Chauvin will be sentenced Thursday on federal civil rights charges. He’s already serving 22 1/2 years for his conviction in state court on murder and manslaughter charges.
His plea deal on the federal charges calls for a concurrent sentence of 20 to 25 years in federal prison.
Floyd died of an overdose of his own making. The good news is he has been clean and sober for several years now.
Chauvin got shafted.
Different crimes, different sentence, the 5th Amendment doesn't apply. The constitutionality has been upheld in the past but this may be just the court to take a case like this one to and re-assess the double jeopardy claims.
Attention Police. DO NOT Arrest anyone darker than Johnny or Edgar Winter. It’s not worth your job or your life. Your Supervisors, Administrators, Mayors, and Governors will throw you under the bus. They will try to appease the Mobs of Feral Animals and you will be offered up as a sacrifice. If Johnny or Edgar Resist Arrest let them go! Smile and wave Goodbye.
Don’t worry about the innocent civilian who might be robbed, raped, or murdered. They would be with the mob calling for your head if you used force.
Retire if you can. Quit if you can. Ride around with Radio Off and Blinders on if you have to. Those of us who support you can defend ourselves and what is ours. The Feral Animals will thin out the weak and Snowflakes eventually.

No doubt. The other one I hate is US laws making it illegal to break the law of another country, which leads to US charges for someone importing shellfish that are undersize in Guatemala or something, even though they meet US standards. (or trying you for doing something in a foreign country that’s legal there but illegal here) As a general rule, I don’t think government entities should be able to criminalize activities that take place outside their borders (with some exceptions). The only good reason I can see for concurrent national jurislike that is if it were used to protect US citizens from prosecution in foreign courts. Like, “We’re claiming jurisdiction here, since this is also a US crime”. We demand you extradite to the US and we’ll prosecute. Other than that, it’s just double jeopardy.
Floyd should have been allowed to run, go man go, just as fast as you can.
Who thinks this was the original intent of the Founding Fathers? What fair person thinks this is OK?
