The war in Ukraine risks turning into a protracted conflict that Russia will eventually win, a leading think-tank has said.
The report by the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) warned that current Russian advantages and Ukrainian weaknesses are leading to a style of conflict that favours Moscow.
The capture of the city means that Russia has essentially gained control of the entire Luhansk region, marking Russia's biggest victory since it captured the southern port of Mariupol in late May.
Ukraine's military intelligence chief Kyrlo Budnov said his defence forces had withdrawn "to advantageous positions in order to gain tactical superiority" after the Russians razed the city to the ground.

I post a bicycle thread once a month and a simpleton Putin Stooge is obsessed about it.
Along with my address that you've asked about?
Was that Nina "Kneepads" Bondar, star of 50 Shades of Blue and Yellow, and plaything of the Ukie General Staff [pun intended]?...
:)
Mention your president in the next bike threadYou wanted to prove you are an obsessed simpleton?
Joey Diapers had a boo-boo when he was hitting on the hot chick...
1) There cannot be a peace agreement. Neither side would believe the other. Ukraine would begin shelling across whatever line is agreed to within a week of signing — that being how long it would be to get artillery and ammo in position from the West.
2) No one knows how many casualties have been suffered by either side. So just stop presuming there is a numerical advantage in that regard for either side.
3) You can ignore money, too. The Russian Central Bank can print up all the rubles it needs, just as the Fed and ECB have done. Nobody is going to suffer any money stress from the war. Money is pieces of paper with ink on them, the value of which is decided inside the imagination of counterparties. Though Russia’s value is decided by the joules in a barrel of oil, which is not affected by imagination. In contrast to the US and its 137% debt/GDP ratio.
4) Militaries are insular. All over the world. In the US, a military base has a commissary, theater, hospital, housing, mess halls, softball fields. The people of that base do not have to socialize with the surrounding populace. Their friends tend to be military and they will know them all their lives.
5) Ukraine’s generals, trained at the same military schools at Russian universities as the Russian generals (30 yrs ago), know personally the guys they send into battle to die. The political leadership cannot allow much retreating because they understand the optics and how retreats might slow influx of weapons — as well as might decide where lines are drawn during negotiations.
And so they can’t retreat. Generals might want them to retreat, but the politics say no. A time will come when Generals can’t bear to order their personal friends to their deaths. This has the makings of military coup written all over it.
A military replacement government in Ukraine would negotiate with the Russians, essentially a surrender, and lead the government for a decade or two — always promising elections someday. The EU easy visas will drain the country of everyone who can’t bear living under the Russians, and the military govt will be glad to see them go.
That is the most credible outcome.
And Russia vs Afghanistan
Yeah.
When somebody who can build their own weapons and ammo fights someone who can’t, they tend to win the war in the long run.
That pic simply reminds me how utterly silly the entire ‘batman’ thing is. The only effort that comes close to accurately portraying the idea was the comical tv show. Same for all the other imaginary ‘superheroes’.
The war will not be going for much longer—My bet two months. Russians will now move on Odessa and if they take it Ukraine is done. Look to see the world’s eyes (and Money) refocused on new wars, new shiny things to fill the news. (War on Taiwan? Iran? War in South America? etc....
not surprising
“Russia” is Moscow and Saint Petersberg, both of which are populated by white Europeans. The majority of the Asian land mass that “Russia” occupies is populated by non-white ethnic peoples, all of whom the Russian Tsars conquered, and upon whom the Russian state has no rightful claim.
Essentially, these peoples are regarded by the “Russians” as being of inferior stock, and thus they are treated as slaves by the Russian state.
Note that the majority of “Russia’s” military onscripts, which the Kremlin has used to invade Ukraine, are not from Moscow or Saint Petersberg, but from the Eastern territories - Mongols, Chechens, etc.
If you go to Moscow and St. Petersburg, you’d never think there was a war on.
The KIAs are well north of 35,000 now. And the count for wounded is typically 3X that of KIAs. I’m not certain as to the number of POW’s and MIA’s, but I wiould think it is significant.
The “Russians” may “win” their war in Ukraine - but will cost them dearly in men and material. Moscow will require decades to recover from this ill-advised invasion; but the Russians never were an intelligent people to begin with. Inbreeding with mongols, etc., significantly debased their European genetic stock.
I am of the opinion that Russia’s days as a world power are coming to a close. I would not be surprised to see a civil war break out, based on the antagonisms that exists between the western (Moscow, Saint Petersberg) and the eastern territories.
Moreover, seeing the true weakness of the Russian military, China is likely considering it’s own invasion so to take a good portion of Russia’s far eastern territory, which the Chinese have long desired to reclaim.
It is NATO that cannot sustain a credible war against anyone. The socialist nations of Western Europe have spent their money on Utopian/Leftist projects and have relied upon the United States to provide for their military protection. The U.S. military is now hollowed out and cannot even get close to its recruiting needs.
The entire world saw the shameful American surrender in Afghanistan, leaving a fortune in American weapons behind for the barbarians to use or sell on the black market.
It is NATO so crippled and impotent as to be a laughable deterrent.
