Despite her global fame and crossover success, Dolly Parton never got above her East Tennessee raising, continuing to this day to write songs reflecting values learned in the Smoky Mountains.
For God and Country took this a step forward in 2003, comforting a post-9/11 nation with songs reflecting her Christian faith and unwavering patriotism.
Parton's fame, flashiness, benevolence and trademark vocal delivery might overshadow a truth for a lot of fans -- she's one of the greatest songwriters, regardless of genre or gender, of the past 50 years. The lesser-known "Color Me America" drives this point home by fitting in on an album filled with famous songs for God ("Whispering Hope") and country ("God Bless the USA").
As you would want and expect from Parton, it's a song about being proud of where you're from, with no hints of bias against outsiders or vengeance over global headlines. So, before time for the family cookout, celebrate America with one of its proudest patriots.
"Color Me America" Lyrics
I am red and white and blue these are colors that ring true to all I am and feel and love and do I stand proud and brave and tall I want justice for us all so color me America, red, white and blue

Dolly also “soars” in other ways.
For example, at TPA there’s a hanger named after her...
Bet you can’t guess what the hanger looks like.

I remember her running the “ A Capitol Fourth” several years ago. That was the last patriot one that PBS had. The deep state hates patriotism and Americans.
She’s the DJT of American music. God Bless her.
I will also give my attempt at theStars and Stripes Forever.
When the part where they sing, ‘America America’ it brought tears to my eyes.
I do love this fabulous country but I wish it was not in the state it is presently.
These values?
“ Supported the Me Too movement”
No problem with that. The me too movement was originally a denunciation of leftist Hollywood execs who prey on women who want to work in the entertainment industry.
We had a joke come by from the Burt Reynolds days:
” Why does Dolly Pardon have such small feet?”
( Answ: Poor things, they can’t grow in the shade!)
Dolly supports BLM and called non-Vaxxers “cowards”.
“These values?”
Yes, she’s a mixed bag, but don’t forget that she’s an entertainer with a huge following, and they’re different from the rest of us.
Dolly also sends books to millions of kids around the world every month from birth to age 5. The 100 millionth book is in the Library of congress. Whether you like her politics or not, she is making a difference in the world’s kids.
Mixed bag is an apt description. Thank you cymbeline.
“Mixed bag is an apt description.”
I didn’t mean it as an insult. Reminds me of a joke:
Dolly decided to go into the supermarket business. She bought up Piggly Wiggly, Harris Teeter and Big Star and named her new stores “Dolly’s Big Wiggly Teeters”.
Like the rest of us Dolly Parton ain’t perfect.
But when it counts, she knows which direction to point.
