Back in 2019, former President Donald Trump was personally involved in getting A$AP Rocky out of jail in Sweden after a street fight, and now, more details are emerging.
Sweden’s Justice Minister revealed to a local news source this week that Trump used bullying tactics, including threatening to wage trade restrictions against the country, to free the rapper. “If you can try and do something like this against Sweden, what will you then try and do to slightly weaker countries that don’t have the European Union behind them?” Minister of Justice Morgan Johansson allegedly said to the publication.
Billboard has reached out to A$AP Rocky’s team for confirmation and comment.
Three years ago, Rocky was arrested along with his two bodyguards and charged with assault after a 19-year-old man was hurt in a June 2019 fight. He pleaded self-defense, saying he tried to avoid a confrontation with two men who were following his entourage.
Trump intervened on behalf of the rapper while he was in jail and called Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven on July 20, offering to guarantee his bail.
“Give A$AP Rocky his FREEDOM,” the former president tweeted at the time, also calling out Lofven by name for his handling of the situation. “We do so much for Sweden but it doesn’t seem to work the other way around. Sweden should focus on its real crime problem!”
Upon the rapper’s release in August, Trump tweeted, “A$AP Rocky released from prison and on his way home to the United States from Sweden. It was a Rocky Week, get home ASAP A$AP!”

There are several ways of viewing this. I knew some guys with family in Mexico who lived near some of the violence that we see on TV. They were unconcerned for a number of reasons. I gather it was like the violence in Chicago. Although the news portrays it as violence against say, socker moms, nothing could be further from the truth. It’s almost always one bad gun against another. The deaths are so strongly associated with certain characteristics that the Chicago police would call up future victims and warn them. Apparently, that didn’t work because they were basically saying, “You need to stop doing what you’re doing, or our stats say you’ll get killed.” and people can’t stop what they’re doing. I mean, if your job is selling drugs, then what are you going to do? Move to Iowa and get a job at a Walmart?
I’m willing to wager that Americans who get into trouble abroad are mostly doing something that attracts violence, or they are going places they should know better not to go. North Korea. Anywhere near Iran. Ukraine. Russia. China. Americans who go places where just being American has the potential to get you in trouble, or who violate the local laws are simply asking for trouble. I don’t see where a president should get involved as that is giving the bad actors more power and attention and that is the whole reason for taking Americans in the first place.
Even if Biden was a functioning man, what could he do about an American political prisoner in Russia? Remove sanctions? Hand over some Russian dissidents? Because that’s the whole point of taking an American hostage.

I hope this isn’t true, it would be crazy irresponsible to threaten sanctions for some stupid rapper. But knowing Trump’s affinity for celebrities I wouldn’t rule it out.
Well, I still do not believe it. It’s the lying season, and all the lies are directed at Trump. Like I said Trump may have called, but I doubt the claims made about him. After all, the rest of the claims have been untrue, and I believe this one to also be untrue.

If Sweden or the rest of the cretin EU don’t like it then they can stop sucking on our teet any time they want. We have a huge trade imbalance with them as much as China.
The truth is, Europe as it currently exist would not even be on the map if not for our military. Without the USA protecting them, NATO and Europe would crumble like a house of sand.
