Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s deadline for the Biden administration to respond to his request that they cancel an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposal passed on Wednesday, and he now plans to take action to protect the nation’s gasoline supply himself.
The proposed regulations take aim at the Permian Basin, the largest oil field in the United States, accounting for 95,000,000 gallons of gasoline per day or 40% of the oil produced domestically, according to the Texas Governor’s Office.
Abbott claimed that the EPA’s proposal would further raise gas prices for consumers when fuel already costs more than $5 per gallon in much of the country, according to a letter he sent to the administration Monday. Abbott pledged that if he did not hear back from the administration by June 29 that he would take action to “protect the production of oil—and the gasoline that comes from it.”
“Even as Americans are struggling with $5 gas and record-breaking inflation, team Biden continues to double down on their political commitments to ‘end all fossil fuels,” former EPA Chief of Staff Mandy Gunasekara told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
Abbott’s letter comes after the EPA announced last week that it was considering reversing a 2017 ruling that the basin was in compliance with air pollution standards. For that decision the EPA cited emissions levels from the basin from 2014-2016 to determine that operations were in accordance with federal regulations, but environmentalists say air quality has declined precipitously since then, Argus Media reported.
Abbott does not dispute the increased air pollution in his letter, but rather focuses on the practical implications of constraining domestic oil supply at a time of record high prices.

“Two trillion bbls of oil...”
That’s about what I recall, and it’s right here waiting to be pulled out of the ground.
Works for me.
We can start lopping off the welfare state too > IMO.
For people who have legitimate infirmities and need help,
okay. For the others, get a job.
Everyone who voted for it raise your paw.
“but Butt-Head is trying to ideologically restrict or close the Permian Basin based on ozone pollution, which is a long-established regulatory function of the federal government.”
It may be long-established, but is it legal? The eco-fascist regulatory agencies are well-known for making sh*t up that exceed congressional rule-making authority. Besides, it’s illegal for agencies to write law. Only congress may pass legislation.
Starnesville ping.
😉............................................
Agree.
Thanks TF...
Sorry for your loss. We are still booming in spite of BiteMe and his insane policies for energy. I keep hoping things will slow down a bit so some of the liberals that have “infiltrated” will go back home. LOL!
I also hope that Gov. Abbott finds a way to take the reins of oil production completely away from the feds and the EPA! I think it’s doable.
“I also hope that Gov. Abbott finds a way to take the reins of oil production completely away from the feds and the EPA! I think it’s doable.”
Yes, it is doable, but not sure it is ripe yet.
If there is a way to stop the Fed by legal means, Governor Abbott is the man for the job.
If that is impossible, it will take another type of leader. I pray that is never necessary.
The socialists lied a lot.
Where is John Galt?
What do you mean?
The US government in the book is cronyist, redistributionist, and arrogant enough to think the economy can (and should) be centrally controlled. They wound up with the kind of ripple effect from their meddling with the levers that my quoted paragraph reminded me of.
I tagged you for courtesy since you were the OP of the paragraph I quoted.
Wow cool, thanks. I thought you meant “Atlas” in terms of maps.
Yes, the Biden occupation thinks it knows more, or are experts on the supply chain system which in fact is a finely tuned system built and set in place over 100 years. Anyone messing with that threatens to crash the whole thing to the ground with even the slightest tweak.
One example is the DEF system they put in place years ago. I drive a truck for a living BTW, and the DEF system is a system that supposedly reduces pollution from diesel engines. When you run out of DEF fluid, the engine stops running.
Guess what happened to me quite a few times when I couldn’t find any gas stations or stores that sell it? The worst was a few years when I ran out in the middle of nowhere on i-95 in Connecticut in 95 degree heat waiting hours for a guy to bring me some DEF and I had no water. I thought I was going to die from thirst, it was crazy. When you get like that all you think about is water.
I know I’m not the only one who got shut down from that, and that’s just from ONE small tweak so imagine what is going on now with diesel deliberately being raised to $7 a gallon. How many trucks so far have run out of fuel because they can’t afford it?
All of this is deliberate. Did you read the news today? Biden said the raising of fuel costs is necessary for the new “liberal world order”. If this continues I absolutely expect fuel and food shortages to come next....And the Republican party continues to say and do nothing......
